    I love it that you made and gave it to yourself for Mother's Day. It has taken me a very long time to learn how to do self care. I find it easy to do things for others, but I think I learned from my mother to always put others first. She had to do it, to raise 5 kids 95% by herself, but I don't need to do that. Now that my children are grown, I'm learning how to do things, like junk journalling, etc for my own enjoyment. Thank you for your time and instruction.

    Good job & the original crafter who came up with this “Ephemera Folio” was Rachel from Roxy Creations, then Gayle Agostinelli made a few for her ephemera, then Martha Manigross started making them & selling them, then someone with 2 names & one of them being Bella started making them & also selling them, but Rachel truly started a lovely trend with the Ephemera Folio for sure...🙂👍🏻! Take care, 🎀 Lily 🎀

    Hi I am new to art Journaling and junk Journaling. You just glue the the folder into the spine?

  • @Psalm_27.4

    @Psalm_27.4

    Жыл бұрын

    @Secrets You can glue it in, OR you could could sew the sheets in with a tapestry needle and embroidery thread. Watch the videos below for how to sew in pages. The LAST video I listed at the bottom of this text, will really teach you a few key mixed media skills, including sewing pages into a spike of a book cover. Plus, you’ll end up with your own mixed media art journal!!! Collage Ephemera Holder by Gail Agostinelli kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZY6TtLGdmcjFosY.html See @45:20 for how she planned to stitch her folios (a folio is simply folded and nested sheets of paper sewn together in the center, either by themselves, or seen to the spine of a book) Video, “Collaging New Ephemera Folder” by Gail Agostinelli kzread.info/dash/bejne/n4KOza5yZcbRldo.html @:0:28 she shows that she sewed the folios together into the cover’s spine. DIY Ephemera Storage by Le CafeCraft (Patricia) kzread.info/dash/bejne/Yoedr5iQiZibgco.html This uses no sewing, but is interesting to see another style of Ephemera holder. How to Sew a Folio kzread.info/dash/bejne/oJx12auLXdHFm8o.html ********************************* To see the exact process of making a journal with folio pages, this video, below, will show you exactly what to do, and more. This is an amazing resource. Watch it ASAP, before it gets removed! It’s been up for years, but it’s such an amazing TOTALLY FREE resource, the author might realize it and take it down! It’s called “How to Make An Art Journal for Beginners” kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZJetj6tuos6yoLw.html You don’t have to add the little beads at the edges of the pages. Either way, this video teaches some great beginning mixed media skills. The journal uses 140 lb watercolor paper. A good brand of 140 lb watercolor paper is a brand called Canson’s XL. It’s available at Michael’s, ( maybe also at Joanne’s Fabrics), or Amazon online. Your local art supply store will likely have it. As she said, you need to buy the size with 11”x15” sheets. If the Canson brand does not come in that size, Strathmore should have 140 lb watercolor sheets in 11”x15”. Google 11x15 watercolor paper, and see what brands come up in that size. For making this journal, you’ll need: * An empty cereal box;she used a medium size of Cheerios. * Nine (9) 11”x15” sheets of watercolor paper; you may want to buy 10 or 11 sheets, just in case you cut something wrong. * Paper cutter; You can go to Fed Ex Office if you don’t have one, OR use scissors and cut SLOWLY and CAREFULLY in a STRAIGHT line. Since since 140 lb paper is pretty thick, you may want to make your 9 cuts of paper with a paper cutter at Fed Ex. * Bone Folder to crease the paper; I think these are available at Michael’s and Joanne’s, and possible in the craft section if Walmart. You can use the scissor handles if you cannot find a bone folder. * Two sheets of packing paper or two pages from a newspaper; * Lineco Brand Neutral pH Adhesive; May be available at, Dick Blick Art stores, Joanne’s, Michael’s or Amazon. You could probably use another glue, but I think it’s best to use what the tutorial says, because it’s tried and true. * Black craft sponge to apply the glue; I found about four at the thrift store for about 99 cents. * Tissue paper of your choice; * Acrylic paint color of your choice. You’re going to paint over the tissue paper. Golden Brand Acrylic paint is artists grade and won’t fade. Basics Brand acrylic paint is STUDENT grade/student quality. I think it also won’t fade. You can research these brands on KZread. Artist grade/artist quality paints do NOT fade. If you don’t want the colors of the projects you do to fade, NEVER EVER buy Craft quality paints. Craft Quality paints WILL fade. An artist found this out the hard way after she sold a work with CRAFT QUALITY/GRADE, and the customer let her know that the colors were fading over the years. A hard lesson never forgotten! 😂 * I think Michael’s sells Artist Loft Brand paints, and I think they are CRAFT quality and will FADE. You can research paint quality on KZread, to be sure. * Paint brush to paint the cover-A 2” to 4” wide brush is good to apply the paint to larger surfaces quickly. Always let EACH layer of any wet medium that you apply, whether glue, or paint, or other, DRY THOROUGHLY BEFORE applying another layer. Otherwise things will bleed and blend and will NOT look the way you want them to. * Heat Gun. If you don’t want to wait for things to dry, you can get a craft heat gun. I don’t know which brand is best. I haven’t gotten to that stage yet. I’m still drawing with pencils! 😂 * Tapestry needle; available at Michael’s, Joanne’s Fabrics, or Walmart. * Embroidery thread; (for stitching the signatures together. Available at Michael’s, Joanne’s Fabrics, or Walmart. You might also find this at a thrift store). A signature is nothing more than a folio- two or more pages folded and nested together to be sewn in the spine of a book. * Scissors to cut the embroidery thread; * Beads of your choice, if you want them; * Two magnets to close your envelopes; These may be available at Michael’s or Joanne’s. You can ask for craft magnets. You can take a screen shot of the video when you see the magnet and show a sales associate the item and they’ll be able to tell if they carry it or not. Or you could get it online. However the shipping might be more expensive than the magnets! 😂 Of courses, if you could order all things via Amazon, and if you have Amazon Prime, the shipping is free if the order is over a certain amount of money. What do you DO with an art journal? An art journal is YOUR special paper playground!!! 😁😆 You can draw, paint, write, and collage it in, using any paints, whether watercolor, acrylic, gouache, or oil, because it’s watercolor paper and won’t wrinkle, even with water colors! You can even use Gesso and other mediums, which are common in collage and mixed media. You can practice collage techniques. Practice using watercolors, acrylic paints, gouache, gel pens, micron pens, etc. You can make color swatches of each type of paint you have. There are videos on this as well. Pen brands: Micrón-.05 is popular for drawing thin lines on top of DRIED paint that you’ve used. Never write on wet paint. It will likely ruin your pens. Sakura Brand gel pens, black, white, and other desired colors Sharpie-WATERBASED medium tip in white. Black is likely available. Uniball , UM 153 Signo Broad Point Gel Pen . I think these are waterproof. Mechanical Pencil, Pentel Twisted Erase 519 mechanical PENCIL. It’s best to look for these pens in art supply stores, or on Amazon. I believe that you can use the same type of brushes for watercolor, gouache, and acrylic paints. Gouache is a more intense, opaque type of watercolor. Good sizes of brushes to have are 6, 8, and 10. There are others, but I haven’t researched enough. There are KZread videos on mixed media supplies, including brushes to help you decide. I hope this info gets you further down the road of mixed media. I just got started in July, and it’s been quite interesting, but many people don’t give enough detail, and I have to stop the video and try to read the brand names of the products. So hopefully this will help you not have to do so much deep investigation! All the best!!!
