Ep5 Flying The S&D - NORTH DORSET RAILWAY (UK) - Vision to Reality - 4K

In this episode we take a closer look at the achievements and aspirations of The North Dorset Railway at Shillingstone.
We discuss the feasibility of re-instating part of the original track bed from here to Sturminster Newton, and show behind the scenes footage of the railway's current activities.
Local politicians and town councils show their support for the project, and good progress has already began on extending the line Northwards to Lamb Bridge.
Small scale operations may even begin in the next couple of years!
....and we meet some of the volunteers, and they tell us what it means to them to volunteer on the railway.

Have been following the North Dorset Railway project from the S. Hemisphere. Probably never be able to return to see it in person. These videos from all over UK keep me in touch with progress, and NDR in particular, as one day, long, long ago I visited Shillingstone as 12 year old, and never forgotten that day!

Fabulous and informative video. Total respect to all the volunteers who have worked so hard to get the NDR where it is today! Love the mix of dronography and video footage in the film. Total admiration at the dedication and commitment from you all. Well done to all involved. Can't wait to have a brake van ride 😉

I come from Poole and did work experience with the cycle hire in Brockenhurst that had that GUV van when I was about 15, never thought I'd see that move! That's awesome to see that it'll be restored and used once again.

One recent thing which I thought was rather pathetic was the removal or theft of the old crimson and cream car park sign from the road to Shaftesbury within Sturminster Newton, the sign had survived Beeching and had been quite a feature then saw it had gone this last year. It originally pointed to the station car park but had been moved round to point to the industrial estate area at some point but it was proper British Railways and apart from a little sunfading was in pretty good nick.

EXCELLENT VIDEO - BUT Excellent video of a most worthwhile project, with a wonderful army of volunteers....BUT.....far to much high-viz vest wearing, which is completely unnecessary. Even the hard hats are questionable ..... The North Yorkshire Moors Railway make the same mistake, with far too much high-viz vest wearing. Pickering Station being a particularly bad example of this..... More imagination called for here altogether..... James Hennighan Yorkshire, England

@@RailFlicks Sorry but you are mistaken. There is no such law. Individual Preserved Railways are able to determine the use or otherwise of high-viz vests, depending on the working environment. The individual volunteer is able to determine the appropriateness of if they have to wear one also.

@@levelcrossing150 You are correct, but the over-concentration on Health & Safety, or more specifically the determination that Health & Safety governs even the most minute of activities and action is the problem. When this happens common sense goes out of the window. As does the fact that we are responsible for our own actions. When the politicians get involved the general belief that more and more legislation is called for becomes accepted. Contrary to popular belief we are no longer pushing children up chimneys to clean them. Clearly accidents can and do happen, and we do our best to minimise the risks. Unfortunately not everything, be it accident or mishap, can be prevented. Far too many people think that they can. James Hennighan Yorkshire, England

@@jameshennighan8193 I find it worrying that more pedestrians will not take responsibility for their actions, many will now walk out in front of a moving car without even looking. Cars are now being made to look that they are bad things, bad for the people and for the environment therefore should not be on our roads. It's as if we are telling them that that it will be the motorists fault if an accident occurs.

Yes, they're volunteers and good for them but... (16:36) what on earth does he think he's doing not even bothering to brush off, let alone rub down the crossing gate disc before painting it? One of the iconic features of the infrastructure, this totally dumbfounding waste of time doesn't bode well for the respect and thought that should be given to the rest of the station.

Problem is, the drone does not record sound so you'd have large sections of absolute silence. If the sound balance between commentary and music is incorrect, it's probably because the playback device does not support Dolby Digital sound. Have you tried it on a TV?
