ep3 Mongolia motorcycle adventure | the Gobi desert | KTM 1190 & Suzuki V-Strom 1000

The plan was to cross the desert towards Central Mongolia but unfortunately that did not go as we had planned it.
A couple of crashes later we end up in Bayandalai contemplating our options. After a short attempt to get through the desert on our fully loaded big bikes, we have to throw the towel and backtrack all the way to UlaanBaatar.

    I've watched a lot of adventures and your videos really capture the adventure spirit better than any. The vast open stretches off road you take are like no other. It's like you can go anywhere you want, any way you want to. Even when on road they aren't well marked so it takes brains, courage, and a good GPS to find your way. A little local help too I see. The only one that comes close is a Himalayan adventure, that was a lot of highway, but super remote. For some reason they left perfectly good bikes at home and rented crappy ones. There was no place to lodge most of the way so they stayed with families. Elevation began to affect the machines and travelers alike. Many fuel purchases were with locals also, and the landscape was breathtaking in scale.

    The advantage of taking local bikes (Royal Einfields) on the Hymalayan trip is in case you have a breakdown or accident you can easily find spares or fix them. With a "modern" bike it would be a game over most of the time.

    Really like your adventures, enjoy your channel a lot.. best tv ever! I want to the same thing, drive to mongolia on a suzi 650 v strom, do you have a list on the preparations for your bike and do you think this bike is capable enough, yeah I understand a bike is as capable as its rider but still.. thinking of buying a lighter bike, with more ground clearance..but really like the strom, Thanks a lot in advance, safe travels..

    The 650 strom is an awesome bike, see our Georgia ride playlist, we rode there fully loaded with passengers. You will enjoy a lighter bike for sure but with a little technique to handle the extra weight the Vstrom can do that trip. Preparations? Make sure you plan for 6000km oil changes (we did that on the Nordkapp ride). You will find offtoad tires in UlanBaatar. Crash bars, engine guard and BarkBuster hand guards are pretty important.

    Hi I am new to your channel. I like your videos a lot. However I find your choice of music too over powering. After a while it becomes irritating so I listen with sound on zero which is such a shame as the visual side of your videos are great. For future videos may be you could select different music less over powering perhaps? I watch for the motorcycling journey not the music. For me it spoils enjoyment of your films. Sorry. Also any chance you could give subtitles in English?

    Thank you so much for your feedback, I dubbed down on the "pumping" music in newer videos - see the TET Greece series for example - kzread.info/head/PL3QQ74szNegYNHljxnqLOi3Q5ejTs07mF better blend and more in sync with the scenery - please let me know what you think.

    pathetic! fancy big bikes and do not have the balls to ride into the desert. Herders in Mongolia criss-cross the desert on 150cc chinese bikes in winter!

  • @motorcyclingTo

    @motorcyclingTo

    5 жыл бұрын

    You are mostly right, I must admit. However, herders have the advantage of not having to ride from tenths of kilometers away to get to the desert in the first place. Other than that, the lightweight, 150cc chinese bikes are a blast, especially on that terrain.
