EP29: Surviving The Kimberley - Part 1 | Wolfe Creek, Bungle Bungles | Lap of Australia 2021

We are in the rugged and rough Kimberley in Australia’s harsh Northwest, exploring some of the stunning beauty in locations very hard to reach. We leave the comfort of Broome and make our way down the Great Northern Highway.
After a couple of quick stops along the way we arrive at Halls Creek, not the friendliest of towns, but a great base to explore Wolfe Creek Crater, the 2nd largest meteorite crater in the world. If driving around Wolfe Creek isn’t scary enough, we get stopped by police on the way to the crater and are questioned what on Earth we were doing out here!
Finally we head to Purnululu and spend a few days at the Bungle Bungles exploring this absolutely stunning part of the Kimberley, visiting Cathedral Gorge, Echidna Chasm and the Bungle Bungles themselves.
We are Hannah, Chris and dog Archie, setting off on a 12(ish) month trip around Australia - our BIG Staycation, with the whole of Australia as our backyard! We've quit our jobs, rented the house and gone from never towing a caravan, to touring the country full time with one! We're learning as we go! / staycationoz

Really enjoyed this journey. Wolfe creek crater is spectacular, but definitely watch the movie! Archie 🐕 is such a good sport, I understand you needed to stay back with him Hannah. Chris did well on his own walking the canyon. ❤🇦🇺🦘

When we were there in 2017 you could walk all the way into Echidna Chasm and into another smaller Cathedral cave & we saw heaps of small snakes maybe 150mm long

I just like Chris saying "bungle bungles"! Fantastic episode and loved the crater. No idea about this film you're going on about, I'll have to google, presume it's some sort of Australian cult classic..

Thanks! Unfortunately I don't think you can, there is a rim walk you can do, but technically not allowed into the centre. Thanks for watching!!

Great episode. Where did you stay near the Bungles, and how long did it take you to drive into them Chris? Sad that Hannah couldn’t join you. I hope we can see them one day. Had watched another guy driving into them on KZread it seemed to take him hours by the videos he put up. Look forward to the next episode.

Hey Gailleon! We stayed at the Bungle Bungles caravan park. From there, it took almost 2 hours to drive in to the visitor centre (although was stopping a bit for filming), and then another 40 minutes to the first walk! Big drive!! 🙄

@@StaycationOz thank you. We would also do lots of stops. Love to take in the scenery and take photos too. Might have to be an early start to make the most of the day and head out before dark.

Hey! We always manage to find somewhere to stay, obviously it has to be dog friendly which rules out National Parks, but there’s always plenty of places which are dog friendly so we’ve never had an issue! Thanks for watching!! 👍
