Ep1 Flying The Castleman's Corkscrew Trailway - Broadstone to Wimborne, Dorset, UK By Drone

2021 Then and now story of 'The Castleman's Corkscrew' Trailway from Broadstone to Wimborne.
Our drone follows the original route revealing ghosts from the past along the way.
This video is a bit of an experiment to see if there's any interest in flying along old disused railway lines using a drone. Your comments below are welcome, and give us a like if you want us to make more of these!
Thanks,
Rail Flicks.

    Brilliant video, and information. Live in the area, and have always enjoyed cycling the traiway, and this sheds new light on it for me! Thank you.

    Mesmerising and informative video which has been wonderfully created. Everything from the camera work, the narration, and the music was beautiful, and i didn't want it to end. Also it evoked a sadness for the loss of those lines which once had engines thundering up and down. Incredible job. I now am massively excited to watch part 3. I wonder if there are plans to cover the other direction through Ringwood, and Holmsley. Thanks to everyone involved.

    Thanks so much! These take quite a lot of effort to produce, so it's really nice to know they're appreciated! Part 3 was published yesterday (Sturminster Marshall to Blandford), it won't end so quickly at 23mins long! Ringwood-Holmsley would be a possibility in the future, but I've got my work cut out with the S&D until we get to Templecombe, where we'll probably have to stop due to travel costs on filming days. Anyway, many thanks for your wonderful comment.

    @@DDDPeace Hopefully, you'll like part 3 even more, as we had better weather for the second half of the filming. Also had the opportunity between trailway users to fly through some bridges to create some 'special effects' !

    Why didn’t you mentioned the junction from Wimborne to Bailey gate where abouts was that located

  • @RailFlicks

    @RailFlicks

    Good point! The joining point was near Oakley Road (just to the east) off of the B3073 into Wimborne. From google maps you can just make out the junction from the pattern in the trees north of the A31. This line is mentioned in Part 2 of our series following the S&D from Broadstone. The drone shows the route quite clearly considering this arc of line has been closed even longer than the S&D. Thanks for your comment.

    Most interesting but the music distracts as far to loud and blots out the commentary. Had to rely on the subtitles with their amusing spellings.

    I agree, why it's thought we can't survive without irritating music music is ridiculous, probably "artistic licence" in the brain of the producer. Leave the music out and let the visuals speak for themselves.

    Suspect you watched it on a phone without DD capability. I don't write the subtitles, KZread does that and they frequently make amusing mistakes!

    Thank you Mark. Yes I've had a few people commenting about background music and commentary sound balance in a few videos. It's caused by the playback device not being fully compatible with Dolby Digital sound and KZread's post upload digital sound resampling. The programmes are made for TV playback in mind. I've tried to fudge it in later productions to cope with a wider variation of devices but our cameras record in DD! Have you tried it on a TV with DD sound?
