EP 39: The reason why I’m still a nurse

In this episode Nurse John is going to talk about the reason why he pursues nursing as a career, the traumatic experiences and challenges he went through that made him realize that nursing is the only profession he would want to pursue in his life. Nurse John will also share real life stories from different nurses from around the world sharing their own unique journey of why they pursue nursing and why they are still a nurse even in these challenging times in the healthcare system. Bestie, hold on tight to your coffee, take those medication, and keep hydrate and let’s continue our celebration of nurses for this month.

Don't be afraid to go get help and check into a program for a week. In the U.S. you can find grant based free crisis centers. It's OK to take a week for yourself to get back to your authentic ❤ and powerful self.

I'm a nurse here in 🇨🇦 and a filipino, too. No, I was not forced to take up nursing. I'm the one who forced my parents to let me take nursing. 😂 We have the same sentiments nurse Johnn. I always told anyone that don't take up nursing if you're not serious and if you just want the 🤑 because it's a different kind of dedication and a lot of abuse and oppression 😢 There's a lot of profession that pays well and don't ask for too much😂 Anyway i got $50 gc for nursing week which I'm grateful for😊

I just found your channel & I’m loving your energy! I just started school to become an RN and it’s a little intimidating with the countless videos about nurses leaving the field. It’s nice to hear your perspective on why you continue to be a nurse. I can tell you love what you do and I wish there were more nurses that were as passionate as you because I’ve come across my share of “mean” nurses as a patient. Thank you so much, I appreciate the insight! Subscribed (:

Hey John, I love your warm personality that shines through in both your YT shorts and podcasts! They're so engaging and informative, it's hard to stop watching/listening. By the way, I'm a fellow Southeast Asian from Myanmar, a neighbor country to your home of the Philippines! If you ever have a fan meet-up, I'd definitely try to be there to meet you in person! Sending lots of love from the UK! 🇲🇲🇵🇭🇬🇧

This meant so much after hearing so much negativity about becoming a nurse. All this that you said is so true and is not about the money all the time but about having passion for what you do.❤

Me myself as a Filipino PAB(propose aux beneficiaries)working in one of hospital here in Montreal are the one doing all the hardest and dirty job…we are directly involved in patients needs in all aspects except medication…working teamwork with nurses makes our job easier…but if nurses are lazy makes our job stressful!…coming in day shift following evening and night shift sometimes disappointing as I checked all my assigned patients their table is a mess leaving some unused stuff from nurses, empty cups from medication, they can’t even throw garbage were garbage just few inches away…sometimes they are the one asking us to check about skin conditions from our patients…there are nurses that are good and bad also same as other job out there but I salute Filipino nurses because they have the heart to served with so much patience, working with their hands not mouth, seldom complain and refused if you ask for help….

29:22 All. Of. This. And it’s so difficult to get family members to understand this. That just because they have family members living and working away from the motherland that we’re all rich, it’s not true! It appears like that because money converts to something much higher, in my case compared to Vietnam, but where we live in the states the cost of living and standard of living is different which requires more money than they realize. I love that you preach this. Anyways, thank you 😅

Having an RN behind your name opens many doors that doesn't include bedside care jobs. As a Registered Dietitian I see so many jobs that I actually qualify for but those 2 little letters keep me from being a candidate for the job. I live in San Diego and previously lived in LA for 17 years. Jobs such as "Clinical Specialist", Quality Educator, Quality Manager, and many research jobs are out there for RNs and they pay very well. There are many jobs in the beauty industry too if the RN has their certification to inject Botox and fillers. I worked as a preceptor for dietitians doing their internships and they dreaded starting their career in hospitals. I would remind them that if they didn't want to work in a particular specialty, then don't apply there. My very first intern started her career working as a public relations representative for Kashi cereal promoting their brand and they wanted a Registered Dietitian. I think it's a duty of every RN educator/preceptor to inform new grads of the multitude of areas a nurse can start their career. Why does everyone think that hospital bedside is the ONLY job that exists?

About that racist comment. Idk why she wouldn’t think of “hey this is an issue I’m having. I really need you to xyz”. Maybe help her out?. Show her what you mean?. If she’s making mistakes because of a language barrier. do you think she wants to make mistakes? Help her. Kindly. And don’t generalize a whole group of people who have worked hard and are still working their asses off to get where they’re at.
