As a HUGE Steely Dan fan, I am so grateful that The Midnight Special shares with us such EXTREMELY rare performances of this group, specially since they are performed live. I didn't even know these performances existed until I started watching this channel. This is like finding a treasure. If it weren't for The Midnight Special, Steely Dan filmed performances from this era basically would not exist, as they only performed live for a couple of years, and almost never did television appearances. That's what makes The Midnight Special so SPECIAL !

And to have them doing "Show Biz Kids", which was the set-closer on this tour, but which has almost fallen into obscurity nowadays, is even more awesome. (Only thing better would be doing "King of the World", IMO.)

@@Jessica_Roththey do Show Biz Kids in their current era, just not every tour. The version now has a cool funk groove. I agree it’s great Midnight Special is releasing these priceless performances of so many 70s (and earlier) acts. I recall seeing the Steely Dan Reelin/Do it Again performance on the first or second episode in 1973. Never thought I’d see the OG Dan band playing Show Biz Kids. Seems like they’d played some live shows between their first appearance earlier in the year and this one. They’re pumped up and taking some chances and its …Fun 😅

It was really exciting to be the only one up in my house and watching with the volume low so I didn't wake everyone else up. Hard to explain how much fun it was. I always felt I learned a little bit more about life in a way after every episode. We were lucky we got to experience that.

This was also Steely Dan's 2nd & final appearance. The guitar riff of Jeff "Skunk" Baxter near the end of the song "My Old School" reminds me of the late Isaac Hayes "Do Your Thing" (long album version from the "Shaft" 1971 movie soundtrack). The song "Show Biz Kids" had to blank the "F" word!! The Texas group Gladstone song "A Piece Of Paper" went to # 45 (Billboard Hot 100) in September 1972 & their only charted song. Their next song "Marietta Station" charted but bubbled on Cashbox & Record World in January 1973. The album went to # 208 also in September 1972 on former ABC Records & their next album in 1973 did not charted. Singer songwriter Ned Doheny did not hit Billboard, Cashbox & Record World. The late Buddy Miles doing Kenny Loggins & Jim Messina's 1972 remake of "Thinking Of You" was great. Billy Preston "All Spaced Out" is almost exactly the song "Space Race" from 1973.

The pairing of Billy Preston and Buddy Miles doing "My Sweet Lord" will be something to see. Did you know that Billy recorded this song on the Apple label before George Harrison had the huge record with it? Also, George produced the record as well.

I don't know about that. George Harrison recorded the song in April of 1970 . Billy Preston recorded the song in December of 1970 . Where are you getting this shit from 😮

@@Royale_with_Cheeze USA TV would never put the original Mothers on although European TV did a few times. Ironically, 1973 might have been the best band Zappa ever had with Overnight Sensation and all those incredible musicians.
