Ep. 27: Puff adder encounter while camping at Meiringskloof Nature Park / Fouriesburg, Eastern FS
Hello everybody
Welcome back to my channel.
In this episode I visit a "diamond in the rough" near Fouriesburg in the Eastern Free State. The camp site is called Meiringskloof and the Meiring stream runs through it. This nature park is surrounded by beautiful sandstone mountains on all sides and the views are just incredible.
The Eastern Free State is truly stunning and well known for the majestic sandstone mountains. Fouriesburg is also close to the Lesotho border.
Meiringskloof offers a variety of hiking trails, and you will discover breath taking caves along each route. It was on one of these hiking trails that I had a close encounter with a large puff adder. I did not see it until I almost stepped on it. Fortunately puff adders are not aggressive and will not attack for no reason (unless you step on it), so I just stepped back and gave it some room. It was a beautiful snake and I took the opportunity to take a few pictures of it. We both stayed calm and parted ways as friends.
I can recommend Meiringskloof to campers and non campers. They do have 11 chalets for people who enjoy a more luxurious break away.
It is a must see for nature lovers and people who are not addicted to the internet. There is very little cellphone reception, but they do have WiFi hot spots available.
I hope you enjoy this video.

Hello Mariaan. Thank you for watching. Yes, Meiringskloof and the surrounding area is absolutely beautiful. I am glad you enjoyed my video.
Good Morning and thank you again for a lovely video of a beautiful place to stay. With all the potholes, it would be a great place to escape when troubles come. Who would wish to drive on those roads? Rock formations are created by the elements such as heat, wind, rain, and erosion. What nature has done with these tools on the palette of the earth is both breathtaking and mind-boggling. God's hand was definitely behind this. The scratch marks on those rocks may have been caused by a flood pushing other stones as they passed. There is nothing on the internet to explain Meiringskloof rock formation, sadly. When I saw that overhang with the scratch marks, I immediately thought, "Wow, what caused that." Maybe volcano flow. I am a firm believer in the flood being worldwide. I also don't support the earth being 6 thousand years old. I do keep the 7 days of creation factual. But in this case, for me, it appears that water rushing through that area may have caused that breathtaking rock formation. Thank you for knowing I would research. Lol. Take care.

BTW......inhabited by the Bushmen, Boer women, and children hiding from the British. It was carved out by a river hundreds of years ago. I went back to research a bit more. If only those walls could speak.

Hi Vanessa. Thank you for the information. I also thought to myself that we would hear very interesting stories (some funny, some scary and some very sad) if those walls could speak. God's hand definitely created all the beautiful landscapes that we can enjoy and admire today. I appreciate that you researched it again. I think I should appoint you as my official researcher...
