Ep. 267 Three Sides on the Side... Gene Simmons Sits Down with Us and Answers the Questions

Музыка

Episode 267, January 23, 2018. While in Detroit to personally hand deliver the Gene Simmons Vault to his fans, Gene Simmons sat down with the KISS podcast Three Sides of the Coin.
During this 20 minute conversation with Three Sides of the Coin cohost Mark Cicchini Gene discusses his massive Gene Simmons Vault Box Set, including why it took so long for the three songs featuring Alex and Eddie Van Halen to finally be released. Gene addresses a couple historical questions that KISS fans have been wondering about for decades; did he spit blood on the first night of the Lick It Up tour and did KISS have to wear their Love Gun costumes on the first night of the Creatures of the Night tour. Gene also discusses his 1978 solo album and how it was going to include Jerry Lee Lewis as well as John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Finally in a topic near and dear to some KISS fans, Gene talks about his hair, yes his hair!

16:13 - The three songs with the Van Halen brothers weren't put out for years because Eddie didn't want them out; but around the time of The Vault, they were. You gotta wonder if Eddie's health problems at the time made him think to change his mind about that.

Great job, Mark! Wow... and hearing Gene referring to the "Three Sides of The Whatever The **** it's Called". Classic. To have an original guy acknowledging the show... that was cool! Just goes to show how a little idea of having a podcast talking about KISS can grow in to actually having a guy like Gene being interviewed by one of you guys. I love that you asked some deep geek questions. You 3 Sides Guys need to be commended for flying that flag every week. It is truly amazing how long 3 Sides have been able to do that and it isn't the same stuff rehashed. You guys bring an energy and personality and fun to it (to those of us who "get it").

Most arrogant man on this Third Stone From The Sun. Mr. Gene Simmons. 👏👏👏👏👏✌but also one of the most giving. As a Veteran of the Army I know how much Respect for the Men and Women of the Military that KISS has for us. I've only seen the original KISS preform. But as a huge Ace Frehley fan I have reached out in emails to buy signed stuff that HE was offering, only to be ignored and NEVER got my order filled. So Cheers to you and KISS Gene. I don't know this for sure, but I suspect a lot of this music (because of rights) couldn't be released on it's own, but if THE VAULT EXPERIENCE is technically paying to MEET GENE and The Vault is included as a "free" gift...that may have made the difference as to it getting out. Gene may not be able to release it on it's own because of royalties.

We all know each "experience level" had a different price. Just what was the "interview the boss level" price? ( whatever you're willing to pay is not a valid answer). And did it involve selling first born, or an after hours invite? Enquiring minds want to know.

This, of course, is a phenomenal interview. I can really see the Gene Simmons arrogance in play here and it really rubs me the wrong way. Over the years, I've read him saying it's just his form of enthusiasm, that comes across as arrogance. But I can really see how it must have put Paul Stanley off in the very beginning when they first met. It's just the way he pauses and his facial expressions whenever Mark is speaking. He looks really self-absorbed. I know this is nothing new, but it just seems more pronounced in this interview. Mark did a great job, btw.

This was truly an amazing interview. I loved the 'geek' questions. I only wish there would have been more time to ask more. In watching this, I realized I would not want to sit down and talk with Gene. He is WAY too arrogant and detached, if not dismissive. I can understand that if you've been called God for the last 40 plus years, it's going to fuck you up, but yeah...um...no. But good job Mark!

"Largest box set ever" and it's literally a binder/book filled with cds. Just bc you put it in a giant vault box, doesn't make it the largest collection. You could also make a more affordable (or realistically priced) just by selling the book alone without the useless vault. For the size, it should have had more then a crappy looking figure, a coin and random kiss merch. I understand gene wanted to go big and share his stuff, but this was a fail as a whole.

Lmao, Do you go to the expensive 5 Star restaurants in town and criticize them for charging $100 for a dinner and demand they add a dollar menu because its too expensive and not very realistically priced? This isn’t the clearance section at Walmart, they are buying the Gene Simmons vault experience. I can’t afford that myself but I am not going to knock the man. He didn’t deprive you of anything you rightfully earned. Assuming you have a career, how would you feel if some stranger shows up and demands you cut your salary in half because your skills are not worth the wages that you earn?

Alves, if by "the best" you mean "the worst," then I totally agree with you. Never mind all the absurd opinions, but you could play a drinking game if you go back and listen to all the shows where he got the facts wrong. I don't know if Brandfold didn't realize it at the time, or if he just didn't want to call him out because he was afraid Cicchini would again walk off in the middle of the show and quit (the only good thing Cicchini has ever done on the show). I recently listened to an episode with Hirsh Gardner, and if we had been playing a Cicchini drinking game, our livers would have been more pickled than David Crosby's.
