My late husband was soldier stationed at langata barracks and became a victim of circumstance, jailed for four years at kingongo maximum prison for nothing.Thereafter he got out of prison totally depressed, lost his job and benefits and to cut the long story short he died miserably leaving us with nothing. He had served in the army for nine solid years

It is true Moi through Kanyotu who had planted Special Branch spies in the military knew about the coup at least a few days before it happened. When Kanyotu sought permission from Moi to arrest the coup plotters,on Friday 30th July 1982 at the Nyeri show ground, Moi felt it was wrong for police to arrest the military and left it for Monday 2nd August for the military police and military intelligence to carry out the arrests on Monday 2nd August, but the coup happened a day earlier on 1st August 1982 a Sunday catching Moi off-guard.

I agree with you 💯 per cent. The sad thing here is that some NCOs were jailed for failing to suppress the mutiny yet C.I.C.himself when he had been briefed by intelligence officers (Kanyutu) did not take drastic steps to arrest the situation. Moi should have been the first respondent in court marshal in Langata barracks. Why?--- He knew and failed to stop the coup. I know it sounds odd but I tell you innocent soldiers and NCOs suffered in jail UNNECESSARILY.

Fall from grace Njonjo’s downfall, when it came, was swift. On 1 July 1983, he announced that he was resigning his position as Minister for Constitutional Affairs. He was accused of scheming, in the company of Kenya Air Force men, to oust President Daniel arap Moi. Moi appointed a Commission of Inquiry to go into Njonjo’s affairs, and over the course of 109 days Kenyans were transfixed as a parade of witnesses opened up Njonjo’s dirty laundry for public inspection. This is an extract from a journal, THE CONVERSATIONS. So I think Hezbon is mixing up dates and some details. The Njonjo Commission of Inquiry led by Chief Justice Cecil Miller started sometime in 1983 after the coup attempt. His lawyer was Queen's Counsel Deverell assisted by Paul Muite, not Byron Georgiadis.

This man doesn't really know exactly what transpire on Jomo Kenyatta's death. When Kenyatta died in Mombasa technically the Chief of Staff is the one who calls the shots, so for this man to talk of Airforce Commander excluding Gen. Mulinge is a big lie. Gen. Mulinge is the one who called the cabinet and ordered Njonjo to read the Constitution what it says in such circumstances, and that is how Moi took over for 90 days before an election. What was the Britich High Commissioner doing about this issue???

Wueh! Luos have really been persecuted in this Kenya, Jomo Kenyatta with his 1969 oath, Moi with his 82 coup and 1990s retrenchment that targeted luos, Kibaki with his judicial surgery and 2007 PEV where Luos bore the brunt of police brutality, Uhuru Kenyatta with his police brutality against Luos during the election protests, and now Ruto with his election protests police brutality and assassinations of Luos in Kisumu. The truth is slowly coming to the open, Luos have shed so many tears because of persecutions of blind hatred targeted on them, but they'll have the final laugh

This was quite informative but it was a little tough to listen to. Usually iko nini huwa ni kubanja for entertainment and any learning opportunities come as a bonus. In this case, the discussion is more serious and so clarity is needed. Mwaf, ask open ended questions and let the guy talk. That way follow up questions can be asked based on what he’s saying. Many of the questions you ask begin with “So, it means that…” rather than asking “What do you mean when you say…” or “Does this mean…”. There’s other opportunities for such kind of interviews in future and I know you will get better at these. Keep up the good effort.

Mwaf...you need some backgrounders before such interviews.Your interviewee is clearly not given to public speaking; it's up to you to tease out the points without the unnecessary back and forth... Anyhoo....in a nutshell( what he brings out) this is all a pre-colonial stereotyping type of thing; Luos will always be used because they are impetuous...they must also be managed because culturally they are 'socialistic'. Organise the disorganised and disorganise the organised(same thing happened in Uganda to the Baganda) Even currently we're being used. Kudos to those Anglo-saxons; they are thorough and could see far...for example, take a train ride on those old (50's technology) trains; like the Kisumu one isn't SGR-red yet. You'll marvel. Until we chemsha ubongo extra....tuko pabaya. Bongo is an antelope duh Mwaf! You should have read Waore's Book bwana...it is available!
