Ep.2: orthohub ODM: understanding CT scans in tibial plateau fractures-orthopaedic surgeon education

Watch our second episode about understanding x-rays in tibial plateau fractures in orthohub’s new #ODM series.
The feedback for our first ODM (orthopaedic decision making) video has been very encouraging, and we are delighted to bring you the next video in the series.
In this episode we build upon the initial video and explain how to interpret CT scans in tibial plateau fractures. In particular, we focus on Schatzker 2 lateral split-depression fractures to help you get your eye in and to really understand what the imaging is telling you.
We take you through it step-by-step and highlight key features on the coronal, sagittal, axial and 3D recon views. We will show you what to look out for and the implications of these for surgery, as well as some tips and tricks for ORIF (open reduction and internal fixation).
You will understand how to find the front door to the fracture and where best to position your incision, the best corridors for accessing depressed articular bone and the “open book” vs “contained defect” theories. We also talk about Kash’s favourite phrase, “recruiting bone”!
Next week we will be exploring more complex bicondylar tibial plateau fractures as we progress on this ODM odyssey!
