Ep 2 Leh to | Magnetic Hill Point to Sangam |to Alchi Monastery | Ladakhi food | Ladakh Tourism
This video is about Places to visit in Leh, Ladakh. In this video you will see that we started from Leh and visited Stok palace and then went to Magnetic hill and then all the way upto Alchi monastery via Sangam.
Date of video shoot: 16th July 2023.
Below are the activities / key destinations we visited during the journey.
Stok Palace - It is one of the popular destinations for those visiting Leh, to experience the rich cultural heritage of Ladakh.
Stock palace is at a 20 min distance from leh.
When we reached there, it is under renovation, it was not open for tourist. We were told there is also a heritage hotel which is around Rs 17000 per night.
Rock Art Library - Then we proceeded to Leh Main market, where there is NGO which has kept the rare books on Rock Art, These books have been donated by Mr. Viraf Mehta.
If you have interest in learning about Petroglyphs then you may visit this Library which has many books about Rock art in India and world.
The Wok Tibetan Kitchen - We had lunch at this restaurant, thukpa - Rs 90 half plate & Tingmo with vegetables - Rs 200.
Magnetic Hill Point - This place is known for its unique optical illusion that makes it appear as though vehicles are rolling uphill on a slight incline, defying the laws of gravity.
Sangam - Then we saw the confluence of Indus & Zanskar River, during winter time after November this river is frozen, people do the most adventurous Trek on this Zanskar frozen river, which is also known as Chadar Trek. This place is also popular for the white water river rafting. One can also enjoy the view.
On way to Alchi you would also find 1 site where a lot of Rock Art can be seen on the rocks.
Alchi - Alchi is a small village located in the Leh district of Ladakh, in the northernmost part of India. It is renowned for its ancient Buddhist monastic complex and is a significant cultural and historical site in the region.
Alchi Monastery - It is one of the oldest and most significant monastic complexes in Ladakh. The monastery complex consists of various temples, chortens (stupas), and beautifully preserved frescoes, Entry fees Rs 100 per person, monastery closes at 6 pm.
If you visit this monastery, you can request that lady to help you understand those pictures inside temple bcoz there is no one else to help there, Though priest who was there in the video is there most of the time but i wouldn't have learnt so much without intervention of that local lady who runs this shop in Alchi.
Alchi Kitchen - This 7 year old restaurant, managed by women, I noticed people also come here to learn cooking, we tried the Ladakhi Skyu - Rs 150 Half Plate & Ladakhi Chutagi.
Price of food is bit expensive but if you want to try local food, you can do that.
Shri Pathar Sahib Gurdwara - also known as Gurdwara Pathar Sahib, is a Sikh shrine located in the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It holds great religious significance for Sikhs and is dedicated to Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism.
After this we ended our day in Leh.

Every afternoon after her post lunch nap, she'll tell me to start your show and she will peacefully enjoy a few episodes. This had become a kind of routine for her. Another suggestion, while showing places, please comment on the cleanliness of the places. Give messages to your viewers to keep the mountain clean, avoid using non degradable packages and avoid littering the places. I love to see places which are clean. Indus river was looking clean and roads looked clean as well. Tourists guide and taxi drivers are the first point of interaction and they could be the right people to educate the tourists.
