EP-194 | Artificial Intelligence, Ola Electric, Big Tech Monopolies & Religion ft. Bhavish Aggarwal

Bhavish Aggarwal is the Chairman and Managing Director of OLA. He is an experienced entrepreneur who founded Ola Cabs in 2010, which is now India’s most popular ride-hailing service with over 50% market share.
In 2021, Bhavish started Ola Electric, a company focused on electric vehicles. Within three years, Ola Cabs and Ola Electric together are valued at over $13 billion.
His latest venture, Krutrim, launched in April 2023, became India's first AI unicorn. Krutrim is developing a full AI computing stack, including cloud infrastructure, and advanced silicon for data centers.
Bhavish graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, with a degree in Computer Science.
In this edition of the ANI podcast with Smita Prakash, Bhavish shared his vision for India's tech future, critiqued Western tech dominance, and advocated for greater autonomy and data sovereignty in India's AI efforts.
With plans for an IPO and expansions into EVs, Bhavish envisions India leading in technology and societal change. He emphasized the importance of India developing its own tech and cultural paradigms to maintain national data and narrative control.

Chootiya bana raha hai sab ko. He is getting chinese knockoff products design and then manufacturing in India. Which is why Ola scooters have so many quality issues. ola maps seems to be a rebrand. Ola cabs is a uber clone. where they charge 4x for airport drop and pickup. I tried this once. Walked 1 km away from airport and booked a cab for 1/4th the price it showed at airport. Which means they are looting customers. You know who are the real leaders in Indian startup - the flipkart mafia - Sachin, Binny, Amod, Rahul, etc. Guys like Bhavish, Ashneer etc are just loudmouth show offs.

This is where there's opportunity for peer to peer charging businesses like BOLT Earth come in. For 2 wheeler EVs the usecase isn't there for charging facilities outside home or offices. For 4WD P2P will be much more efficient than public infrastructure which is a huge burden but it happening as well.

I really admire him for the work he is doing in EV sector for India. But I have issue with two statements: 1) He said back in 2019 no was working on EVs in India. Truth is players like Ather were already doing good work much before him. Athers already started deliveries at that time. 2) When he was working for Microsoft in 2008-2010, did he worked 20 hours a day, 7 days a week. I think answer is NO. This is difference between working for own company and doing job. So he sholudn't expect tapasya from employees unless he is paying extra.

My God! The guy asking questions, keeps interrupting with his own inputs! Just be quiet and let the man in focus speak without interruptions to his thought flow. Why do some interviewers think that they need to loan a word or a phrase or an idea, every few seconds, when the very idea is about listening and learning from the person whom you are interviewing? Is there a compulsion to kind of display one's own "expertise" or desire to show he is no less and can teach a few things to the man in focus? Phew!

What a refreshing change to see a corporate leader talking of growth or development for the benefit of society and not just a money generator. We need to inculcate such values in our education system as well. More power to you Bhavesh

Thank you SMITA JI & ISHAAN for this Conversation with BHAVISH ❤️👍 this will go as one of my favourite EPISODE , nice blend of INFORMATION & Many HEADLINES 😀, as discussed INDIA must develop its own technology and cultural model to maintain control over NARRATIVE & DATA. On a lighter note :- One Headline I see “ OLA BHAVISH JI ne Bhole - To End ICE Age Current INDIAN Entrepreneurs must Work all 7 Days & should shift their FOCUS from GOLF to INDIA’S GOAL 😀👍
