    It was really very informative..Dhrupad aik intehi khubsoorat aur mukamal gayiki ang hai...I heard Gundicha brothers when they came to our college NCA lahore..and last year we were lucky to be with Ustad Wasifuddin Dagar in Delhi...remarkable great people on earth..

    You are an encyclopedia of music. You have knowledge of so many things. There are somethings which we feel are impossible to learn. I can tell dhrupad is horrendously difficult. The alap is so difficult my God. It is too tough. It is better to listen and enjoy dhrupad.

    Nice explanation on Dhrupad style. Before the Indian classical music bifurcated into Karnatic and Hindustani styles, the two had a common origin based on 12 notes, with Sa and Pa invariant and the remaining five notes having two different pitches. This totaling 12 notes. The Karnatic style retains the original ideas even today with heavy emphasis on the lyrical contents - bandish. In a 3-h Karnatic concert, while not every song has elaborate slap and percussion solo, one or two items will definitely have elaborate alap, with the vocalist and the violinist getting opportunities to display their skills followed by the lyrics - in terms of pallavi, anupallavi, and one or two charanams followed by the percussion solo. The item ends with all of the three coming together in the end. Here is an example:
