I got a 1970 Critchfield cabin boat for free.. it has a Chrysler slant 6 and a Volvo outdrive.. It's in pretty Bad shape.. needs all new stringers and EVERYTHING ! I want to pull the motor and outdrive out and hang a BIG outboard on it.. I was a Hull Tech. in the Navy and have been to fiberglass boat repair school in 86 so you helped me remember things i had forgotten.. Thanks !!

Thanks so much, Glad to help! Good luck with your project!
That 1st rear corner I learned that when Marky Mark says, "that's good" for the 2nd time that it's probably good. Don't make him tell you the 3rd time? You know I'm kidding ya & I'm still waiting to see him working on his sailboat. Yeah, that's big work he is doing on that - grinding out all those brass pieces & redoing the bottom. Yup, I'm patiently awaiting. peace brothers

I appreciate that very much! Thanks for the comment
You added the second layer of coosa board on the inside of the pedestal seat for its attachment to the floor. @12.38. You only used resin and screws. When you did the top of the gunnels you used filler to assemble. On some other parts on another video you used an adhesive. I don’t understand how you determine which one to use and when.😊

As you can see there are different ways to assemble things when building a boat. We used plain resin along with screws to bond the pedestal seat ring together because the Coosa to Coosa surface is very flat, allowing even unthickened resin to fill the space and bond the pieces together. We used the vinyl Ester putty on the gunnels because the surface was not perfectly flat, and we needed a very strong bond. We used 5200 to bond the floor to the stringers because we needed a very strong, but flexible bond. We also needed a long time to work when putting the floor panels down, and 5200 gives you that. I am sure there are even more methods other boat builders use in there shop. They all have there place at one time or another. I hope this helps clarify. Thanks for Watching!
Just curious. Would or could you use cabosil in place of the high dollar putty for cost savings?
@FishBumpTV

You could, but I don't think that just cabosil would be as strong as the vinyl Ester filler we used. You could add some short strand fiberglass fibers along with the cabosil into a vinyl Ester resin and get a simular product. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!
Where are you buying your coosa boards from , online or local dealer ?

Local supplier, Advanced Plastics in Elberta Al. Boat Outfitters is a good online source. Thanks for watching!
Maybe a dumb question, but why use Coosa if you are going to glass over it anyway? That stuff is good, but so expensive.
@FishBumpTV

Just like marine plywood last longer if painted or glassed, and steel holds up better better primed and painted. Coosa is stronger and more weather resistant if it is fiberglassed. Some suppliers will give you a price break if you buy 5 or 10 sheets at a time. That is what we do to help bring prices down. You might want to ask your supplier if they would be willing to do that for You. Hope that answers your question, and thanks for watching!
How big is this boat?
