Ep 16 - Cool Beans on the Great Loop - Middle River, MD to Cape May, NJ

This week, we continue our Loop journey - we leave the Chesapeake Bay from Middle River, MD to travel the C&D Canal, then all the way down the Delaware River and Bay to Cape May, NJ! We were a little apprehensive about the Delaware Bay but thanks to the Delaware City Marina's daily captain's meeting we felt very prepared to tackle that part of the Loop! We enjoyed four nights in Cape May (with one night away from Cool Beans for the first time!) Thanks for following along, and we appreciate all of your comments and support! :-)

YES Debbie the one night in my own bed (we got two queens!) was magical! :-) You can't appreciate a bed until you have slept on a boat! LOL it's just part of living on a boat, and honestly it's 99% perfectly fine! Just an adjustment! :-)

We liveaboard in Southern California but I grew up boating in Hampton Roads & on the Chesapeake. Loving your videos, scratches my nostalgia itch. Also love that you guys aren’t professional KZreadrs & are more “just” boaters. Yet your videos are solid. Keep up the good work 👍 Fair winds …

Thanks for the kind comments! No, we are not professional by any means! i just enjoy doing the videos and have learned a lot along the way. We started them to share our journey with our friends and family so they could see what we were doing and thought maybe others might want to follow along also! Thanks for watching! :-)

Love the travel! Thank you for this content! Once I retire, I'm going to do the loop. My wife has severe motion sickness, so I'll do it on my own. She will drive it.

Hey that is definitely an option! You on the boat and her in the car, you will have the best of both worlds as you can provision easily! See that's what we say, every loop is different and you just make it your own! Good for you, and thanks for watching! :-)

Delightful video, well-edited and fun artwork and commentary. You were fortunate to do Delaware Bay in placid conditions -- a friend who is a very experienced yachtsman got caught in terrible conditions and said it was one of the scariest passages he'd ever done. Looking forward to your NYC experiences. I've done the Hudson River and it is beautiful and has some lovely little towns.

Hi John, you are exactly right - we are very fortunate that we had good conditions! We didn't realize we would have these Bays to contend with like this - you just think the Gulf Crossing, and the Atlantic in spots, and the Great Lakes - but you don't realize these Bays can get harrowing!!! Thanks so much for watching! :-)

If you are ever making the transit down the Delaware Bay be sure to stop by Delaware City Marina. They give a detailed captains meeting every day discussing the trip route, expected weather and what sea state you may see in the Delaware Bay!

@@zacharysmith9031 yes, that was covered in this video episode! We went to the meeting and it was great! We had a safe passage thanks to the guidance we received! Thanks for watching.

Radar question, do most loop boats have transponders? Does your radar decode and label the screen?

Craig, I don't know about most boats, but what you are referring to is AIS and most LOOPERS have it (we don't have it YET but are going to get it). It's very handy for rivers and the ICW so that barges can see you. Our radar just shows us the boats nearby in the range. Great question, thanks!!!

I’m looking at a looper boat with Yanmar, what’s your opinion on that engine. Thx

We have been pleased with our Yanmar. Not widely known but they are made by Toyota. Parts readily available but can be a little more expensive. Thanks for watching! :-)
