EP. 15 The Chesapeake Bay is WILD | 35 Knot GUSTS!

As if our last sail wasn't wild enough! This time Katy and I have a crazy downwind ride that quickly goes from seemingly perfect full sail conditions to heavily reefed as the wind and waves build to a record high aboard Seawind. She was loving every minute! It was a different story for her crew though.

Rigging the pole on a "crazy downwind ride" with no tether... be safe, Parker.

Thank you I need to hear this!!! No excuses here! I've put off buying new tethers because I thought I would have the extra time to make some myself but seeing that I STILL haven't made them...it's about time we get a proper jack line and tether system set up. We are back in Florida now so its on the top of the list. Safety is priceless

Seawind II's track beautifully in tight, steep chop - true "blue water" cruisers that are built like tanks and inspire confidence when the going gets rough.

Yes we absolutely love our Seawind II she sails beautifully and keeps us safe and pointed in the right direction :) We haven't sailed on any other boats in that kind of condition so we have nothing to compare it to hence being fearful of these new experiences. We continue to gain experience in different conditions and are really learning how well our boat handles it all.

We had similar conditions when we picked our current boat up in the bay and brought it up the Potomac. It can be scary!

You got to watch out for those evil dolphins, they sneak up on you surface blow a hissing sound and then just disappear and do it all over again. It’s the bay bridge tunnel

@@SailingSeawind I was speaking of a different species of dolphin. The ones that look like telephone poles. I did not know what they were called or what they were for until your Episode 3. Thanks for an enjoyable and educational channel.

What size is the propane tank?

It's a 33.5 pound tank! Holds just under 9 gallons of propane. Manchester is the brand and its their 'marine tank" made from aluminum. They have a few different sizes

I never thought the Chesapeake bay could be that bad. How big is your boat? Don't you have a shower onboard?

  • @SailingSeawind

We sure were surprised! Shallow water and wind against the incoming tidal currents made the waves very big and confused! Our boat is 32' long. We do have a shower in the boat and also in the cockpit!
