Ep 15: I Was Warned He Was UNDERRATED. APA 9 Ball TriCup FINAL vs Bob

WE ARE IN THE FINALS! APA 9 Ball, to continue onto the world qualifier… this is the third of 5 matches. I received a text the night before warning me about him being under handicapped so I didn’t give him any slack.
But after you watched this, what do you think of his handicap? Is he accurately rated or should he be moved up? How would he rank in your area? Let me know below…

There's no way that he's a 6. His 4 rating was appropriate. He seemed to have poor positional play with the cue ball and his defensive play was 3-4 level at best. Not just in execution, but what he was attempting. So, whoever warned you that he was UNDERRATED had no clue.

Yeah the person who warned me is far from a reliable source but I’m still going to be aware, just in case.

As a new 9 ball player was rated 6 due to my 8 ball rating. Am proud of beating the two 7's I played. Kept it very simple. Minimized my ball in hands and snookered when appropriate. Quick learner. I did lose to a 3 due to tactical error. Very annoying.

Helped me this weekend beat a guy 8-6 who’s 50 Fargo points above me and realistically plays far above that. 🍻

Your safe at 34:30, I was able to get a hit by aiming as close to the nipple as possible and applying a ton of right spin, two railer. Old fat man had use an extension to reach it. Took several attempts.

I’ve played with Revo since it was released. Got a “used” one a month after it was debuted and used it for 5 years. I was 100% all predator for my equipment. This last Dec, I went and changed over my play shaft to a 30” WheatState carbon. You can find him on FB/IG. He’s the guy who created the shaft for Whyte Carbon before they were sold out and then they changed their design to (from what I hear) junk. So he’s doing his own thing and man, it plays great! I recently upgraded my break shaft to a WheatState as well from the BK Rush.

Don’t know where you’re at but “most” amateur leagues are played on the 7 foot “bar box”. The league here in St Mary’s county MD had 8 footers. When I first started all the tables had the oversized cue ball!! Try drawing THAT bowling ball of a cue ball! 😡🤪

I’ll do my best! More than anything, I need to slow down and focus on the angles more. Shooting a ball in a pocket, you have a range to make it. In a combo, that becomes much smaller margin of error. But if I can avoid a combo, I will haha.

30 innings without hardly any containing or developing defense when the table is clearly not in your favor is not tactically a sound plan against a supposedly underrated lower skill level, or even a properly rated player. I've been there done that before, been in your shoes to a T including all the captain excuses at the end. My game only got better when I started trusting all aspects of the game. Hope you work it out and remember to play the shot the table demands, and if that not one that your comfortable with, that's the one to drill.

I hate it when my teammates tell me someone plays good or is underrated. Really? What exactly am I supposed to do with that information? Play safe when I’m supposed to? Run out when I’m supposed to? Don’t let teammates that don’t have a clue psych you out. The player you played seemed to be ranked appropriately. Mistakes were made by both of you (that’s just pool). Just keep playing and try eliminating mistakes.

Yeah you got a little careless on some shots & referenced the pro’s…. When you’re trying to pay bills and put food on the table…. EVERY shot has importance. League play, you’re playing for competition more than anything.

Todd…. Todd…. You’re an 8 and lost to a guy that couldn’t be your cue caddy!! You should have DRILLED him on the real. Watching it my first thought was that you RUSH your shots at certain points. Which caused you to either miss or screw up your position. As a 8 I’m gonna expect better Mister!! 🤨 😄

@@Poolside_Chat As an 8 I would think that you’re seasoned (AKA experienced) enough not to get excited and rush. Think about a “preshot” routine. Even when you have an open table you need to take a moment and walk & take a look at where you want to leave the cue ball. When you had an open table and missed the 6 Ball…. Your mechanics broke down.

@@charlesc4925 you’re not wrong. However, there’s still the human element to the game. I’m an emotional player and extremely competitive. I want to win especially when there’s pressure on the line. I walked around, I considered my options… I just knew if I tried to hike up and draw, the opportunity of missing increases where a slow roll wasn’t a bad shot. Until I over hit it. 🤷🏻‍♂️ this game would be a lot easier if I could control my emotions. I am my own biggest hindrance haha.

@@charlesc4925 Not sure why you would think this, even pros do this on the regular (though not as much as us amateurs). Was watching Hohmann play a US open 8 ball match last night (old match), and the last ball he needed before an easy 8 to win the match was a near dead-in side pocket shot, he got down and one-stroked it straight into the point. I'm a 9, with over 2 decades of exp, and trust me, we still get nervous, and we generally play so often we are more prone to rushing than the avg joe, as many positions often seem rote. Plus, a 4 or 5 against an 8 or 9 on a 7 foot table is not a gimmie. Maybe in 8 ball I'd have no problem taking a big handicap difference, but I hate playing solid 4s and 5s in 9 ball as a 9, even worse 2s and 3s, you get just a few unlucky rolls or scratch on the break and they are halfway home.
