कानपुर शहर जिसे पूरे विश्व भर में लेदर सिटी के नाम से भी जाना जाता है। यह शहर अपनी बेहतरीन क्वालिटी वाले लेदर प्रोडक्ट्स के लिए काफी ज्यादा प्रसिद्ध है। अंग्रेजों के समय तो कानपुर शहर को पूरे विश्व भर में पूर्व का मैनचेस्टर कहा जाता था। क्योंकि यहां के प्रमुख उद्योगों के किस्से यूरोपीय देशों में सुनाई जाते थे।
लेकिन कुछ दशकों पहले इसके मैनचेस्टर के नाम का खिताब लगभग छिन सा गया, क्योंकि यहां के बहुत से कारखाने अनदेखी के चलते भारत के पूर्वी हिस्से में स्थानांतरित हो गए। इससे शहर के चमड़ा उद्योगों की रफ्तार में कमी तो आई। लेकिन आज भी इसने अपना दबदबा लगभग बरकरार रखा है।

During the time of the British, The Kanpur City was called the Manchester of the East all over the world. Because of which of the major industries here were heard in European countries. But a few decades ago it almost lost its title of Manchester as many factories here were shifted to the eastern part of India due to neglect. Due to this, the pace of leather industries of the city slowed down. But even today it has almost retained its dominance.
