It is simply so crazy compare to when i lived in Kyoto in 2003 or even 2007, nowadays there is so many tourists and especially Chinese bus tours are so loud and unrespectfull that Kyoto city had to create signs for Gion "do not wait for Geiko/Maiko, do not touch them" , so sad these Maiko hunts.

Lubomír Černota to be fair, these tourists are the ones saving the geisha culture in a way now. They’ve reinstated a culture that was dying and because they’re one of japans greatest attraction, the government is trying to preserve ad rebuild the geisha culture. Also, many young people are starting to flock to it because of the financial liberties and “celebrity/vip” status.

The Soulmate Experience tourists blocking their path, standing beside them taking pictures like it was Micky mouse, shouting, crowding around and making these young girls feel scared is 'saving their culture'? To be fair, you are way off base. Geiko have never needed tourists to survive.

Lol, okay then. I wasn’t saying it was right but yes, they are. The geisha culture was at an all time low before tourism. That’s just a fact, I mean... I don’t know how to argue facts. They’re just what they are. And the tourists need to learn to respect space and culture but.... uh... those are westerners for you.

The funniest thing is that there's a geiko in 10:42 min in regular kimono a long time talking quietly and nobody pays attention on her. Her name is Danka. I find this kind of situation funny because people are crazy looking for them when they are peacefully right by their sides. The same is to Gion Matsuri when the geiko are in yukata dressed simple. I saw a lot of them in yukata and nobody bothered them. I laugh inside.

The same happened with me in Kamishichiken district, 2 geishas passing by and people running after them but at their side (of those people) there were maikos dressed simple in yukata entering the house... kinda funny, people search for something that's already there lol

I loved video games characters, anime characters and cartoon... But now I love the culture of Geisha, for the very first time after Paris, I loved a real thing and not virtual character ! That's make me so happy ! thanks for that video and all of the internet for showing me this mysterious and incredible culture. I Hope to see a real Geisha and Maiko in Japan. (when I have money...)

T T. She’s a geisha. A Maimonides is a geisha. What you mea is that she’s to a Geiko, which is a fully fledged geisha. But a Maiko is still a Geisha.

Does doing this make you nervous? Idk why but im excited for you that you actually get to see these lovely women in person. I hope that one day you get to have a sitting with one somehow. but someone can't just call up and get a meeting with a geiko or maiko- you have to be introduced by someone who has connections and a good reputation within the geisha community, there are other ways like the kamishichiken beer garden, but most involve having to know someone who has good standing. memoirs of a geisha is a horrible film and book btw in terms of accuracy with 30+ errors in the book alone as the author combined traditions of yujo and geisha and made up details to fill in the story.

There are now some really great businesses that are offering opportunities to experience ozashiki to first time guests. There are a few located within Kamishichiken as well as Miyagawacho. They're pretty close to the real thing, except of course you and the maiko and geiko don't already have a known relationship which I think is a big part of usual ozashiki. In Gion Higashi tomikiku is also offering ozashiki experiences (for a higher price) at their ochaya. And yes, I agree with you about MoG, I feel like the inaccuracies are closer to a hundred or more but that's just me XD

If you're asking if this is a tradition that began during that period and still continues now then the answer is yes. But if you are asking if this is a result of being isolated I would say probably no.
