When we left the cinema, my mom said "Envy was not so envious" and I agreed, then my little sister said the same as me: she was more like admiration. We thought that she was gonna be really mean and looking to destroy the others, but she was like a "good envy" I know the envy is a complex and multifaceted emotion and it can be described from many perspectives

The envy we see is what is called Benign Envy which is the much more positive, mature and helpful aspect of envy that not many people are aware of. I like this interpretation of Envy since it shatters the common perception and expectation of the term and reveals it's more helpful aspects

@@justafellow2765 The main new emotions all kinda shatter the preconception of their assumed roles. Envy obviously is that benign form you mentioned, one that’s less destructive and simply just ambitious, an aim at self-betterment. Ennui isn’t just boredom and sarcasm but levelheadedness and suppressing emotions in a healthy way (in order to not get overwhelmed in a social setting). Embarrassment is a bit of that self-cringe aspect but it’s also introspection/reflection, as shown by his behavior throughout the movie, where he’s the first to realize Anxiety’s plan isn’t good for Riley. And even Anxiety, as unintentionally villainous as she is, isn’t just the bad, paralyzing fear that one would expect of that term. When kept in check, she allows for proactiveness and quick thinking that can resolve near-future problems.

I like this portrayal of Envy and all of the other emotions ngl. It’s a healthy way of thinking that even the “bad” emotions are needed and we shouldn’t try suppressing them or making them disappear. But we also shouldn’t let one emotion dictate our life.

It only happened with Sadness, because Fear is seen touching tons of memories in the first movie, and he doesn't change any of them. So it was just a Sadness thing.

Sadness has the role of telling other people when Riley needs help, and, as we saw, Riley missed her home in Minnesota, she struggled to adapt and was having a hard time, but since Joy would not let Sadness touch the console, maybe Riley's mind gave her the ability to change the emotion bound to the memory to show what Riley was actually feeling
