Exactly lol, his accent when he is speaking English sounds so French. Obviously not surprising, but I've seen many comments on here saying he doesn't really sound French when he is speaking French, because of his quebec dialect/accent.

His French is from Canada, in Quebec. It’s a québécois French accent. His accent is perfect.

his accent is more than perfect, it's native. BUT ...if you're a bilingual person listening to him after reading Welovfree comment and I can see what he means. He's structuring his sentences A BIT like if he was speaking english, that's all. but towards the end of the interview he's actually speaking more flutily

I lived in Montreal for a few months a couple of years ago, and the people there speaking Quebecois French sounded exactly like this! 😁 So no, his French isn’t “weird”, it’s just Quebecois.

He is french Canadian. The french in Canada is of old french, never changed. This is indeed what it was like in France long ago. It just remained untouched and changed in Canada. The language is protected in Quebec.

Funny to hear these comments from people saying his French sounds odd. I’ve lived all over North America and have heard awful East Coast English accents that are painful to the ear, why the judgment on GSP’s accent? The only pleasant English accents which present themselves are in the posh neighbourhoods in England, otherwise it isn’t all that pleasant to the ear.

@@nightlover2226 Of course it's not broken. Any francophone would understand him some from Europe maybe with a little more difficulty because they're not used to the accent but they would understand. It's like if you put someone with a cockney English from East London into the Bronx of New York there would be some difficulty to understand each other clearly but they would still be able to communicate!

He's probably been speaking mostly English for the past ten odd years, so I'm guessing now he's "stuck" in this weird language-limbo where he's having to struggle to find words in both languages at times. On a slightly different note: I never knew Canadian French sounded like that. Some words sound like French with an English accent of some sort. It's very strange to my ears but interesting.
