Kuma actually has the saddest backstories, his family got slaved by celestial dragons and his close people died, and even bonney has to suffer cause kuma got turned into a robot and bonney hasnt seen his father for a long time, so that is why luffy got pissed from the celestial dragon.

Now it make sense, why Ivankov said to Kuma "Don't you remember my face?" Men this question really is heavy.

Damn, when Kuma said "I will never forget your face for as long as i can live." But forgot his face during the marineford arc. deeeep.

The paw paw fruit, Kuma's devil fruit is the fruit that could repell pain. Despite having it, kuma is the character that have endured the most pain.

My favorite character when I started One Piece, and his backstory just solidifies his position as my favorite character!

Kuma is the Severus Snape in the One Piece world. He was first introduced to the series like the bad guy, but as the series progressed and appeared more his reasons were still unclear until the recent chapters in the egghead arc. Like Snape he endured plenty of psychological pain like being bullying, falling in love with his best friend and then later on discover she has died and then decided to train and protect her child and in kumas case he also raises Bonney and watches also over Luffy before set sail and helps and saves him and the other straw hats both at Thriller ark and sabaody archipelago and as the story progress it shows that everything he has gone through is to protect the his friends family and after all this he always been at their side even after going through the whole pacifista modification process and lost all sense of humanity and he went to the egghead island to save the ones he cares about. I dont know how this will end, but since Kuma is severely injured both by Saturn and Akainu i think he did while protecting Bonney, Vegapunk and Luffy. Besides from that i think Kuma is one of the underated characters that Oda has ever written. His story is so sad and filled with so much tragedy from the very beginning... I dont think i can continue writing anymore, his past is so sad and makes me start crying all of a sudden.😢😢😢

I wouldn't compare Kuma to Snape being that I remember that he (at least in the books) relished making Harry's life hell at his worst. He projected that hatred of his dad, James, who bullied him in the past, onto Harry. Film Snape is more sympathetic (Mostly due to Alan Rickman, RIP); he's more of a grump, but still disapproving of Harry. Kuma was more seemingly cruel to Luffy _when he had to be,_ and respected him more and more. I'd compare him more to Magneto; a man with badass powers and a tragic genocide-related backstory (Max being a Jew and Bart being a Buccaneer), and had every right to act on his darkest impulses. However, unlike Magneto, who _did_ act, and tried to enforce mutant Zionism with his powers, Kuma uses his powers to help all innocent people and take on others pain (while still having to use violence at times to protect the innocent). It also helps that Kuma had a great love interest who was supportive of his powers, parents who instilled in him a positive role model in Nika, and friends in Ivankov and Dragon who understood and supported his interests and ideologies, compared to Magneto, whose wife left him because of his powers, and his friend, Charles Xavier, left him too because their ideologies were so fundamentally different at the time.

If Kuma was a real person, the world would be twice as better right now

Well with where the story is going, he won't stay mindless. I won't say i know for sure, but it seems pretty obvious that Bonney is gonna use his memories she found to restore Kuma's memories at some point. Sadly, knowing Kuma's story I am also going to assume when he does get his memories back, he will probably die shortly after by dying a heroic death or sacrificing himself in some way to help the straw hats and Bonney.

the story of Kuma is almost a direct antithesis to the book of Job - which feels like a tale written by Jaygarcia Saturn himself. Job is tortured by God, over and over, and never loses faith, refusing to curse the name of God. only after Job is beyond his breaking point, begging for explanation, does God finally say "where were you when i laid the foundations of the Earth?" this causes Job to repent, cowed, saying "i know nothing compared to your divine understanding...i repent in dust and ashes". in other words, Job is a good celestial subject who knows his place. stories like Job's were promulgated for a real-world reason. programming peasant subjects - with the idea that the unfortunate masses deserve to be tortured by their rulers, because they are unable to understand the lofty vantage point enjoyed by the powerful due to their inherent "greatness" (sound familiar?) it is a direct analog of the supremacist ideology of the World Government. Job's piety is not out of respect or kindness for other people, it's out of absolute piety to the celestial system. Kuma, like Job, is tortured endlessly at the hands of "God", and like Job, through his trials, he comes to question life itself before he begins to question "God", begging for the end of his life. all until he meets a crossdressing heretic, who gives him the radical notion that even though they are born into a life of endless torture, if they can reduce harm for others, it's worth continuing to live. in other words, while Job's faith was absolute deferential faith for the God torturing him, Kuma's faith was faith in *other people* and the inherent value of their lives, in direct defiance of the "God" putting them through living hell. imagine someone taking a lightning bolt to save Job, the way Kuma took arrows to save the residents of God Valley; this would be spitting in the face of God's will; imagine if Job punched God in the face in Verse 1103! God never explained to Job the reason for his torture - never made his case for his divine plan. what Job got in exchange for his unbreakable fielty was "Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell me, if you know so much. Who determined its dimensions and stretched out the surveying line?" an expression of naked supremacy, devoid of explanation, from a being who tortured his own creation endlessly to test the servitude he had instilled in it. one is reminded of the way the Buccaneers have been condemned to caste slavery as a result of their "original sin" in the eyes of the celestials.

Nice essay. Unfortunately, your whole anti-Christian sentiment falls apart right at the part you claimed Kuma's faith lies on other people. Which is objectively wrong. His faith ever since the first pages of his backstory is already established that it lies on the Sun God Nika, who is basically the Messianic figure of the slaves. The whole idea of his character is influenced by Christian iconography (the church, the cross on the wall, the outfit he wore when he was younger, the literal BIBLE on his hand) and is a direct reference to Catholic saints (the sacrifices he made). The Celestial Dragons in this world are a bunch of normal humans who want to play God, yet without the system and the Marines protecting them, they become utterly vulnerable and powerless, which is the opposite of what a god, like Nika, is.

Brother, if you are going to write an essay analysing and comparing the book of Job and the story of kuma, atleast make sure you actually read it. God didn't torture Job, God allowed the devil to torture Job to test his faith. The point of the story in my opinion is to show that it's easy to be good and faithful when life is good and nothing ever goes wrong. God allows suffering and evil because it makes us grow in virtue. Overcoming it makes us better men. You also equate God to the celestials? Did you perhaps forget the New Testament where God lowers himself to our human level to be a servant, teach humility and allows himself to be betrayed, ridiculed, tortured and killed for our salvation? Teaching us that humility and self sacrifice are the highest of virtues?

God didn't torture Job, He just give the devil little chance to put Job in temptation At the end of the story, God give back everything that the devil stole in Job's life TWICE than before. Not just material things but his faith become more bigger than before

I'm not sure if this videos uses the last few pages of Kuma's backstory, because im not watching it but the culmination of everything we just learned about kuma illustrated as a running panel! On the day he's supposed to keep his bargain with the WG and have his personality erased,Vegapunk is ugly crying (as am I) and Kuma apologizes for any potential harm or trouble his life may have caused people. Vegapunk say's; "Kuma, listen to me; Your life hasn't caused anyone harm or trouble, but your death will pain everyone who loves you!!" I cant describe the emotions I felt and still feel about that chapter...

I look forward to seeing more to the end

No that's not the point.Kuma only saw Ginny as a friend he never developed any romantic feelings towards her.Also he's modeled after Renassaince priests and during those times these priests could never get married , they only devote their body and mind to the preaching of faith.And that's eaxctly what Kuma did.Even if he had romantic feelings for Ginny the marriage wouldn't happen anyway.Kuma was always designed to be the last of the Buccaneers.
