Enthalpy of combustion of alcohols C0095

High School Chemistry
A simple calorimetry experiment using spirit burners and copper calorimeters.
Five alcohols in spirit burners were used to heat 120ml water in copper calorimeters.
Mass readings of the burners were recorded before and after heating.
In each case the temperature rise of the water in the calorimenter was measured using an alcohol thermometer, -10 to 110 C scale.
The enthalpy of combustion for each alcohol may be calculated from the results using the formula deltaH = m c deltaT
There are many errors in this experiment which students should be encouraged to comment upon.
