    I remember this vividly. When I was painfully young my parents wanted to go out for a meal with some friends. Without someone to watch over me, or their friends' very attractive and slightly older than me daughter, they decided to just ditch me with the daughter in a strange house. I'd never met her before and I was painfully shy. She handed me this space invaders handheld, pointed me to a chair, and then ignored me for the rest of the night. That game is seared into my memory.

    I think my uncle used to have one of these. That specific handheld design and red screen is definitely poking some nostalgia receptor somewhere.

    It’s a surprising nice screen for the time! I’ve heard from a few friends that they have similar memories from various family members.

    I preferred this style of handheld over the later Tiger LCD games. They feel far more responsive and interactive!

    Yeah the screen still looks good. Especially considering it’s age. I love LCD games but it is crazy how hard it is to see the screen some times

    This was the first handheld I ever owned, I was 7. Later in its life the character film came off and everything was just dots. Hours of fun memories with this. I do find it weird that fire button was on the left, wasn't weird back then.

    My first feature in someone else's video. I'm FAMOUS! I really had to laugh at the under the desk teams meeting action. I'm glad our company doesn't demand we have our cameras on all the time, I get so much done whilst on mute ;) Awesome video. Really enjoyed this one including your music choices. Good work that man.

    Nice and clean work! The second edition of this which came out in ‘81, was grey and was reprogrammed. It also had a brighter display. :) Yeah, that battery compartment is ridiculously tight.

    Yeah it’s funny to think that it was grey just because they filled colour on the order form out wrong. Thanks for watching

    @@RetrogradeScene - Yes, it was very nice and I couldn’t put it down for the longest time. If I remember correctly, I received this the Christmas (1979?) after I’d gotten Merlin and Simon and the Christmas (1981?) before I received the Galaga tabletop from Coleco. At the time, the sports games from Coleco were the best, especially Electronic Quarterback and Head to Head Baseball which was molded in the shape of a baseball stadium.

    Don't think I have ever seen this handheld before. The brand name does sound a bit familiar. And yes, I have the same experience with the batteries not quite fitting in 80s gaming handhelds! 😀

    My father had mine and he just gave it back to me. I got it working, but the piece for the move buttons is very worn. It's turned into a sticky mess, actually. I'd have to come up with something different to get it to work. Springs, maybe?

    Great video! Do you have recommendation on removing fine swirl scratches in my S I handheld screen?

  • @RetrogradeScene

    @RetrogradeScene

    10 ай бұрын

    My first advice would be to use loads of furniture polish. Pledge/mr Sheen. I’ve had great results from just that if the scratch’s are fine. Other than that a polish with a really fine grit but it’s a case of removing scratches with smaller ones. Always a risk on a screen where you can’t really do a test patch.

    One question: Do you know where to get replacement silicon contacts for the left. right and fire controls? Mine are pretty badly worn out and it takes a bit of pushing for it to work.

  • @RetrogradeScene

    @RetrogradeScene

    I’ve not come across any that I know would fit. But have you tried putting on some carbon paint? It’s a conductive paint you can put on to the contact bit on the back of the silicon. It can work wonders.
