I'm surprised Archer accepted Tucker's assessment of how long until warp drive will become available again. Starfleet Captains usually just roll their eyes, say "aha, you have one hour" (or whatever time limit the Captain sees fit to impose), to which the Chief Engineer responds with confirmation and fixes the problem in half the time. Fascinating. 🖖

Problem is Archer saw some of the engineering crew in sickbay and no idea when they will be back on duty. This warp engine is pretty new so Tucker wouldn't know how much wiggle room for an "ideal repair time" Archer might be more familiar with the warp engines than the Chief Engineer.

Archer: "Now, the Enterprise is crippled. You know who else was crippled? My great, great grandfather. He wanted to ride trains, so he built the damn thing with his own two hands. If the Vulcans had arrived sooner, maybe he'd still be alive."

She is a stand-in for all the Vulcans he hates.

Despite what everyone else thinks of this series, Captain Archer and his crew were only explorers aboard the first starship Enterprise, they weren't really patrolling per se.

Even though the NX 01 is my favorite enterprise of them all, I did not warm to this series immediately when it was new. Specifically, I did not like Scott Bakula as an actor. It was only as I came to see the crew as an ensemble cast That I grew to like the show in spite of him. I think in the first season he was still the vulcanhating asshole, and he had to grow from wooden to human. I bear in mind that he absorbed distrust of Vulcans at an early age. He did have to watch his father live and die without seeing his vision come to fruition …… and that, because of vulcan unwillingness to share technology or lend positive guidance. His entire life, the Vulcans never told them what to do. Only told them what they couldn’t do. He was born for that resentment, and the fact that I didn’t personally like the actor portraying him didn’t help.

@@myfavoritemartian1 he really had to change the character a lot for me to care for him as a person. His face and his acting both are synonymous with the word “wooden,” in my own humble opinion.

Because he was of the opinion (And he wasn't alone in it) that the Vulcans were deliberately impeding Earth's scientific progress also Archer had considerable resentment towards them for the way they interfered with Starfleet's Warp Five project of which his father was in charge of.
