Considering that Enterprise is about twice as fast as Long Island, it won't be much of a race.

Considering that Enterprise was only two years old when Long Island was launched, that was a real young fatherhood.

But that's to be counted in Ship Years. Since the Pre-Dreadnought Era, Warship design has started to improve at an insane rate, rendering the 20 year old Kaga obsolete by the start of WWII............. Except that was the literal, most terrible example, because Kaga was completely unmatched in just sheer, pure, unadultered POWER, until Shinano WOULD manage to take the lead over...........and then suddenly, Archerfish sad "Nuh-uh!" Which means that it should have took until USS Forrestal in 1954......but to be frank, the moment they put angled flight decks on Essex and her sisters, her legacy was over, at last. That was in 1947-1951 by the way. In reality, though, there is only 2 years between Bismarck and Yamato, and they are incomparable. Yamato is better in every single metric, other than top speed (except if we consider Yamato's size and weight, I'd say Yamato is very impressive in the regards of engine power as well) Since Enterprise was a 1936 Carrier. It took about 2 years for her to "mature". While for Kaga, built in 1920-1921 as a Battleship, and from 1923 to 1929 as a Tri-Deck Carrier, and then from 1930 as a conventional Carrier (Powerhouse), her design took 10-12 years to mature out, and around 2 more years for the crew to get used......but that's about to be expected in one of the fastest-developing years of recent history. Soryu was comissioned in 1937, and Hiryu was in 1939. The difference between these two bunny sisters, are quite a lot, and Hiryu has been vastly improved over Soryu. They are sometimes designated as individual ships rather than sisterships, and in my opinion it's more of a Tomato question, it depends on where you look at it, and for what reason you bring this question up. With all that.....let's say development time. I do feel like that 2 years was enough for Enterprise to reach her....Era-Average status, on the curve of "State-of-the-Art" to "Obsolete"

@@barnykirashi Mostly agree with your arguments, the only one I'd argue is Bismarck. She was an improved Bayren, so looking at it that way Yamato had 25 years on her.

@@frednone Well, I never would have thought someone else would share that sentiment with me. Yeah, Bismarck was.....a Facelifted Bayern.

@@barnykirashi I never got how people put Bismark on such a pedestal, don't misunderstand me, I would have hated to go up against it in anything less than a South Dakota or a KGV, but it is one of the most overrated ships going.
