The reason you didn’t see horses that day is because it would be inhumane to make something walk in that heat.

As Matt was talking about how much water he was drinking, I really hope the both of you are keeping up with some sort of salt/electrolyte supplement because there's more to hydration than only water. I know you're both experienced hikers but I don't recall it being mentioned previously in this ADT series. I wouldn't want to see anything bad happen to either of you.

I used to use Nuun and a few other things but these days I just mix crystal light packets. I’ve found I seem to get plenty enough salt from all the snacks

Lusk creek wilderness is my favorite part of the Shawnee. Love the way it meanders down and back up through the ravines

I hope you are reading this in a cool spot, that heat sounds brutal. Again, I'm amazed at how well the two of you handle the heat and humidity. Thanks for sharing.

Staying cool in a brook and under rock cliffs! Neat. Glad you guys were in a forested area for the most part during this heat dome. It made it, well, somewhat bearable. So far I haven't seen too many blowdowns. Weren't you warned that the trail had a lot of poorly maintained sections and blowdowns? Looks good so far (well, except for the spiderwebs, but you can't send horses in front of you ALL the time! Hike On! Tortoise

Mostly that it would be hard to follow at times due to all the horse trails cut across it. We had a handful of blowdowns but honestly that’s been reasonable. Also a few places with bad overgrowth

How do you guys plan on getting across the US border when you're paddling the Yukon. I don't think there's a CBP checkpoint on the river, and Poker Creek would be one heckuva portage

LOL the sour toe cocktail, so gross. Actually, when I was there in 1993 it wasn’t a cocktail. The toe was inside a bottle of whiskey and you were meant to take a swig from the whiskey bottle until the toe fell down and hit your lip.

I was wondering if you could tell me what that blanket is that Jen is always wrapped up in in the morning the flowered one? It's beautiful, is it a liner? I love it it looks so nice and soft😊
