Robot Jox was directed by Stuart Gordon (Re-Animator) who also made the sci-fi movies Fortress with Christopher Lambert (recommended if you haven't seen it yet) and Space Truckers with Dennis Hopper.

I remember seeing it back when the small video stores were losing out to the big chains. I remember thinking that it couldn't be good because it was probably cgi. Cgi like early sci-fi channel, before it became syfy, or like Babylon 5 cgi. This had to be the 90's. How wrong was I?

I want to say I rented Dolls at first as well. Which is odd for me. Because I rarely rented horror movies unless they had a monster of some kind in them. That was kind of the prerequisite. A lot of love and care went into making these packages. Gotta love the love. You're not opening up the lost books of the Library of Ancient Alexandria, but you sure make it look like it. Careful with those corners! If you bend those posters...!!😡 Back in prison (high school) I had an acquaintance who was into sci-fi and fantasy books. He was really hyped about a paperback he had, I was curious and he handed it to me. I bent the book in half, putting a crease in the spine. I think I got hit in some way, I don't think I was slapped. But that incident taught me well. If you ever get a copy of something from a fan treat it with care. It was a copy of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" by that failed bbc employee who wrote some stuff for Dr. Who. Bryan Adams I think he was called?

  • @AtomicSnackBar

Was I lax with my handling of the posters? I guess I did accidentally drop one. But they are made of pretty stern stuff. Regardless, I will spend the rest of the evening in the corner of shame, thinking about what I have done. Oddly enough, I am presently reading The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. And even oddlier enough, I bought it second hand and the whole first part of the book came loose from the binding and the pages are falling out.

Yeah... I hated when Sci-fi and Horror were lumped into the same display space in the smaller Mom & Pop video stores. Fantasy didn't even get a separate classification. Usually with Adventure movies. What could Lord of the Rings have in common with an Andy Sardis jiggle guns & action film? Hopefully my original comment will mysteriously 'reappear'. When you do your reviews, try to notice if the Bluray quality is a true upgrade on movies like Arena. That and the Widescreen format are what I was hoping for. Great looking set. ALWAYS keep th the box and videos together. All those extras are a big plus. Gotta protect the investment.

With my Amazon order being delayed, I ended up so late to the party, and was so rushed, that I kinda dropped the ball on this one. Once I was finished filming, it hit me that I not only made no mention of special features, I forgot to at least check the film quality. I will check and let you know personally at some point in the very near to near-distant future. but first, I will proceed to the corner of shame. As to the display question. I agree in always keeping the films together if they don't have individual cases. Or if they are films in a series. But in a case like this, all unrelated movies, I feel displaying them on their own is fine as well. But here's a thinker. With the Fly set that my most VIP of VIP viewers sent me. I put the three originals together on the shelf. They had to be displayed. The 80s movies stayed in the box.

You hadn't looked at the book before you started the video, so when you flipped through it, I thought there was going to be some unexpected nudity. I like reversible artwork too. They do that on video games sometimes. Wicked Pictures is good about including reversible artwork -- one side explicit and one side tame. I like the cards and posters that come with those movies. They did that set right. Dolls reminds me of Puppet Master. I'd keep them in their original container. I've got a special set of Blind Dead movies that come in a container shaped like a coffin. I keep the movies stored in that special container. Hey, what an informative video. I didn't know about this DVD set until you told me.

Great minds, good sir. Because I thought that very thing about possible unexpected nudity. But I gambled and won. Speaking of, that is really neat for the Wicked stuff to do tame/no-so-tame reversible covers. Are they a similar image? Or completely different covers? At the moment, what I am thinking about doing is putting the sci-fi films on the shelf. Having multiple versions of Arena and Dungeon on display is appealing. And that Robot Jox has such a nice cover. I used to see that Blind Dead set at Amoeba Records in Hollywood all the time. Kinda wish I had picked it up when I had the chance. Great video - I do love Arrow, I tend to use the original artwork cover. I also tend to keep everything in box. I think it's nice to find that stuff when you go to watch the film - it's like opening it for the first time again. 88 Films do a nice job - Zombie Holacaust (Dr Butcher MD) has such a good cannibal film documentary that I feel no need to buy any of those films (animal cruelty turns me over on a base level). I have a lot of films on Shameless, in my Italian collection - they are basic, but as the chap from Giallo Room points out - it's better than not being released. A lot of my Italian films are on Arrow - and wow, they are good. I have an Italian section, a classic horror section, blues films - and then chaos - with little bits of order swirling in between. I pull the big boxes out and binge them now and again. My 3 biggest boxes are - Laurel and Hardy, Northern Exposure and Sharpe. It's nice to reach an age where you enjoy what you enjoy - I spent a lot of time putting myself in a box - they're for the shelf; not me - and not you. You are a legend, thank you for the entertainment - and the following connection - you stop me from feeling like a lone sole in an apocalyptic wasteland - but I still love you anyway. Take care.

@@AtomicSnackBar It’s always nice to see the results of your collecting efforts on display when possible, even if that means removing them from their admittedly cool novelty boxset packaging 😅 I even found custom bluray cases for my Criterion Godzilla and Arrow Gamera sets, cuz they **SO** don’t fit on the shelf otherwise 😆

@@Gappasaurus Ah, that Criterion Godzilla collection. I would have liked that, but I passed when I found out that several of the films are missing their dubs. I'm a big fan of those Showa era dubs. Just too used to them to go subs. It's outrageous I tell you. Outrageous. Something or other.

You always get me drunk, get me drunk with all your junk!!! NOT JUNK but hell Yeah Sterling that is amazing. Arena is definitely my favorite but I also love Dolls and Dungeon Master. I am in love with that set. I would keep the set all together with nothing taken out. Yes Arena with it's VHS looking cover. I need to watch my VHS Arena right now. ❤❤

So, now that I know W.A.S.P. is one of your favorite bands, I like ya even more! What’s your favorite album / song?

Favorite album? Ok, probably a controversial choice, but it's Inside the Electric Circus. KFD and self titled are very close as well. But I really like pretty much everything. As to songs? That is really tough. The Horror. Soul Survivor. Sleeping in the Fire. Too many. Too many I tell you. How about yourself?
