I love the touch that using a boat called Shikari, like the boat that inspired your name, gives to the video. Kind of like an easter egg. Song and video on point.

Fun fact: If you check the credits, the boat crew for this crew includes Jim Reynolds, presumably Rou's uncle. Perhaps that is THE boat. ...Or maybe not.

One of my favorite things about this band is that they can release something heavier like this or The Paddington Frisk and you can say "Yes, this is definitely an Enter Shikari song" and then they can release something softer like Redshift or Constellations and you still say "Yes, this is definitely an Enter Shikari song". Because this band has sound and a character that isn't limited to a genre and that's a great place for them to be creatively.

I see that Shikari brought all the essentials on the boat with them: A guitar, a bass and a drum kit, yet they somehow forgot clean water.

You need to realise that Shikari do not subscribe to just one sound, they have always had a huge diversity in their music and always will have. It's pointless comparing something like Redshift and this, the next song could be absolutely anything and it will be equally as amazing.

I just wanted to say that I really appreciate what Enter Shikari do. The messages they want to deliver are important, the music original and their effort huge. Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of the music (I just take a listen here and then) but I don't understand how they aren't more popular. Especially their newer albums are so unique and energetic. They should be more popular with the international audience they have.

These lyrics are something else for Enter Shikari. Clearly an address on organized religion and how it often relates to a sacrifice of thought and will. In the end, if there is one, the probability of "it" caring who or what you believe would be slim to none, rather than the enjoyment you receive yourself in life, for better or worse. The travesty is that self determination and motivation is a weakening trait that is often stifled by the constructors and controllers of our world around us. Our reality may seem like an isolated boat on an endless sea, unable to escape. But tonight, on this small planet, Earth, we are going to rock civilization.

I've been a huge Shikari fan since pre TTTS, went to see them live everytime they played in my country, but their mindsweep era shows were scripted, kinda repetative and predictable for me, something that differs from why I loved to go to see their shows in the first place. I still love them, better than I love any other band out there, but it seems to me that this has became more of a profession for them over the years, and inevitably lost some of the spark. This is absolutely okay, however despite of the lyrical content for the first time in my life I was bored by listening to shikari and watching their music video, and I am sad about this. AWT is the shit.

Yeah, I thought it was connected to the refugee crisis at first too, but reading the lyrics, it may be more about a direct confrontation with God, but idk

  • @IcepickXIII

Yeah, it gave me a refugee commentary vibe, but the song starting off with "I am the voice of God" sets the tone for religion/deities as the core subject. Though, when I heard the "right documentation" lyric, I felt it was about an egotistical elite in a position of power trying not to let anyone in their coutry. But hell, Rou knows more about the song he wrote, so I'll just take his words lol

This is the voice of God You’ve got it, you’ve got it Stay in and lock your doors [Verse] I don’t care what you’ve achieved There’s only one location if you don’t follow me (You always get what you wanted) You’re gonna burn in a blistering furnace From now until forever, no matter how it ends (You always get what you wanted) [Chorus] Halt, freeze Who goes there Do you have the right, do you have the right documentation Stop, wait This ain’t right This is fraudulent, this is counterfeit You are a hoodwinker, sir [Bridge] This is the voice of God Shrink-wrapper of minds Stay in, lock your doors [Pre-Chorus] Halt, freeze Who goes there Do you have the right, do you have the right documentation [Chorus] Halt, freeze Who goes there Do you have the right, do you have the right documentation Stop, wait This ain’t right This is fraudulent, this is counterfeit You are a hoodwinker, sir I don’t care if you’re devout To the three thousand Other gods (?) Hostile to liberty Burning books It's mental captivity This is a swindle for your soul (3×) (You always get what you wanted) For your soul This is a swindle for your soul (3×) (You always get what you wanted) For your soul [Chorus] Halt, freeze Who goes there Do you have the right, do you have the right documentation Stop, wait This ain’t right This is fraudulent, this is counterfeit You are a hoodwinker, sir [Outro] You are a hoodwinker, sir What do you take me for, a fool?
