Great review. After watching it, I went to their website and ordered one. It arrived today and I really like the look and the feel of the pen. Thank you for your nice and detailed reviews, they helped me a few times to make a decision about acquiring a number of fountain pens or confirming my choices!

Great review as always, David. I've enjoyed my ēnsso Italia, I've had it since launch and I was really looking forward to having an Ultem pen with a clip. My Schon full size and Gravitas pens are great but hard to carry and use quickly while at work. I noticed the same unevenness of the black line near the top of mine too and in closer inspection it appears to be a gasket plug meant to protect the set screw for the clip from ink leaks. It's just friction set in there with a rubber seam pressing up against the cap. If you press against it you can actually readjust it to create an even line. I also really like the look of the branded black nib, but I think mine has been skipping with a slight bit of baby's bottom. It would seem that the nib housing unit is still a Bock type like the other ēnsso FPs if anyone wants to switch the whole thing out, but I've got some ultra high grit abrasive pads from my other expensive hobby that I'm going to try my hand with first.

were you able to swith it out i just got mine and i hate the nib but how do you take it out of the housing

I have considered buying a pen with the Ultem resin. I just haven't done it yet. I have the titanium version and have been hard pressed to get another. If they come out with another resin version like from diamond cast or Jonathan Brooks that is not a limited edition, maybe I will buy that.

Love ensso pens. I have a Titanium Italia with a Titanium nib and love it. I would jump on one of the ensso Ultem pens but I just can't get past the look of Ultem. It just looks like dirty, hard water stained glass. Great review as always, though

Great review! It is interesting that you chose the Ensso Italia to test drive because I recently picked up one of these pens and I think it is a very nice writer. The nib is significantly finer than most medium nibs I have and it writes with an acceptable amount of feedback. All in all, I rather like this pen. It is the fourth Ensso pen I've purchased and they have been great pens. Highly recommended.

Nice review. I hope someone figures out how to make the Ultem in some other colours. The amber is nice, but I have the Schon Ultem and find that one is enough. Thanks, David!

I don't have an Ultem pen but if I were going to get one, it would definitely be one from Schondsgn.

Ok, I admit it. I wanted to ask if that pen could run on vintage leaded ink. My bad, I misread "Ensso" as "Esso". On a more mature note, you've always got great content. Thanks for all your work!

Does a coated nib write as smoothly as a steel one?

It can vary. The nib on this pen isn't overly smooth...it has a fair amount of feedback.

Beautiful pen, and great review. I stopped listening when I heard "stainless steel nib." Thanks, but no thanks. If they ever come out with an 18k gold nib, I'll be a buyer.
