Ensemble Yaman came together in 2009 when the two young musicians Igal Mizrahi and Ariel Nahum met and decided to study together and promote the ancient tradition of Yemenite songs and chants. In Yemen the ancient songs and chants were originally performed with sparse arrangements using only vocals and percussion. Playing musical instruments was not allowed due to the mourning of the Yemenites over not being able to live in the holy land of Israel. Times have changed and Ensemble Yaman now performs the traditional music with a rich equipment and gives it a modern touch. It has a very unique style mixing traditional music with different musical influences such as jazz, African, reggae and rock and showing us the haunting beauty and diversity of the Yemenite music.
