Enough | A Solo Colorado Trail Thru Hike

In July 2023, I set off alone with my dog to thru hike 567 miles from Denver back to my home in Durango (completing both sides of the collegiate loops thus the extra miles.) My dog Indy unfortunate had to be taken off the trail in Twin Lakes leaving me to finish my first thru hike alone.
26 days from start to finish, I had one of the most peace and easy experiences of my life. I was lucky to only get rained on a few times and to make incredible trail family along the way.
A huge thank you to Nemo Equipment and Skratch Labs for gifting me the gear and supplements I needed to do something I've dreamed about for years.
and a huge thank you to you for watching my journey and listening to my story. You are enough.

Awesomeness … love the poetic way you view the struggles. \\\ Life is Art /// Lost my service dog a few months ago. He was my boo >>> was my fly fishing buddy and spent many weeks in the San Juan’s and explored the wilderness with me all the time. Hiking CT beginning first week of July ‘24 and taking my time to enjoy it. Starting at Indian Creek - So excited

You captured the CT so beautifully, well done! I was on the CT from mid-Aug to mid-Sept this summer and watching this really makes me miss it more than I already did. It was a lot of fun to see so many of the little places on trail and remember being there. Little things like passing the cairn on Georgia Pass where I came across a day hiking math professor eating a sandwich and had a fun conversation with 😊 I loved hearing all about the internal journey that you were walking through on the trail too. It was really brave of you to share. I really need to sort through all of my clips and make a video of my hike but I get really overwhelmed with it and have been procrastinating for months 😬

This is excellent, especially the intro, since I relate to often being accused of the not being good enough for more than anything, also in CO. The concept reminds me of the Barbie Kenergy "Kenough" & NF songs.

Of course! I did West first from Twin Lakes, hiked for 3 days and spent a night at the Butterfly house before circling back and heading on Collegiate East. My partner at the time shuttled me back to Monarch after I reached Twin Lakes again. You have to repeat a couple miles but I'm really glad I did both

Thanks for sharing your adventure. I also hike with my dog and plan on hiking the CT this summer together. We did the Long Trail in Vermont a couple of times and I learned a lot about long distance hiking and hiking with my dog. I no longer have my dog carry her pack. She had issues at the 60 mile mark and I took it off her and it’s never gone back on. You addressed my biggest concerns, relentless sun and long water hauls. As an East Coast hiker thunder storms and altitude are also my concern. I switched out of my UL Zpacks for a more robust pack for the longer water hauls and my dog’s stuff. What brand of shoes did your dog use and did they help. I fortunately have not had any issues. I do carry Mushers cream for her paws. I often felt like you back in the day, I am now much older than you, in my 60’s and all those feelings seem like I wasted time. You are enough but only you have to believe that. Sometimes I am not enough and that’s ok too. I wish I could feel the way I feel about myself when I was young like you but it was not in the cards and needed to grow and grow up. All I can tell you is people tend to accept themselves more as they get older. What others and the world thinks means nothing. Maggie and I will drive out towards the end of August and start our hike. Take care and I wish you and your little friend the best. PS Maggie is my best friend too, I deeply love her.

I got the Canada Pooch hot pavement booties and they helped so much but unfortunately he had already cracked his paws on the hot pavement in Breckenridge so he got taken off the trail in Twin Lakes. The trail was pretty nice and gently on his paws but the towns were what got him. I wish you and Maggie all the best!!
