Enjoying AMAZING YAMAHA DX7 presets on MODX

Музыка

I've imported the famous 32 factory presets of the legendary YAMAHA DX7 from 1983 onto the new YAMAHA MODX 6 workstation synth keyboard. Let's enjoy once more these amazing patches, such as the iconic bass, brass, strings and of course, E PIANO!
I'll run the sounds through the internal FX and synth architecture of the MODX such as filter, reverb, chorus and delay.
I used the YAMAHA FM CONVERTER to convert the DX7 sysex into MODX format:

I still say modx stands for modern dx because the original is such an icon they can't let it go. Yes it may look like a montage but to me its a dx7 grown up. I sort of knew the sounds would be even better on this as though the sounds got a new supercharger. What do you think?

Great interface and accessible pricing. Yamaha should thank you for showing your public what it can do. I bought one months ago, not in the least due to your demonstrations. Please keep those coming from time to time. It feels like it actually is the perfect instrument for you! Cheers and have a great weekend!

Woody Piano Shack a DX7 clone++ sounds like something Behringer would do, once they finish recreating all the Roland and Korg analog gear from 30-40 years ago 😁 Maybe B. could just pack a new , backwards compatible, FM (plus filter?) engine in the Deepmind chassis and target the same USD 500-1000 price range as that synth and stuff like MX / Juno / Kross...

I joined the fm synthesis with th arival of the TX-802 an I can sum the fm synthesis in under 10 usable sounds all the rest was pretty much junk and thin sounding. One thing I like to do with the FM-X on the MODX is creating 2 patches with slight differences in many parameters and pan them Left/Right for huge sounds It doesn’t have to be hard panning And of course you have extra operators and waveforms to make richer sounds, as well as Parameter Automations and that’s without touching FX, some of which are really, really good

Brilliant playing my friend. EP is one of my favorite as well. Though what I play here at home is the MKS-20 layered with a C7 grand. Might have to pick this keyboard up!!!!

@@WoodyPianoShack yes! By a stroke of good luck I was browsing facebook marketplace and happened to find one that my local university selling (they upgraded to the CFIII i think it is?) Anyway they had it modified with pickups for MIDI and I had an MKS-20 I purchased about 13 years ago i purchased on ebay! The grand is connected via MIDI to my alesis nanopiano box and the thats connected to the thru on the MKS took some fine tuning but I think I got it where I like it! Then again we always say that and then end up modifying it some more haha! Cheers Woody!

Essentially the grand works as a midi controller. I have the option to use it as a midi controller or as just a regular acoustic it has the Silent piano option installed so that way if im playing midi my the hammers arent hitting the strings its just sending a signal thru the pick ups to the midi boxes. If I turn off the silent option I can play the acoustics from the C7. Sorry im bad at putting it into words. Its in a little in depth but Im sure you got what I was sayin

Hi Woody entertaining as usual! I’ve got the Arturia DX7 soft synth that mimics your originals presets so well. My board is an M-Audio Hammer 88. You in one ear, me in the other, comparing the Arturia soft synth with original sounds, the Arturia does a spectacular job. What about a test of examples from the whole Arturia soft synth family against the originals?

yeah, for sure both the arturia and dexed get you there, if you want to do it in your PC and save some cash, i think we've done the DX6 vs comparisons to death, well at least for me anyway!

Woody - Question. I have a Yamaha CP33 (NOT trading it in!). Is the MODX8 keybed similar (that's my favorite thing about the CP33), or should I go for the lightness of the MODX7?
