H.N. Bhaskar (HNB) is the son of HKN Murthy. He is a senior and leading violinist hailing from Mysore. After many years of advance training under his father, he left Mysore to study with MSG. HNB is one of the top violinists of his generation in all aspects of violin playing; accompaniment, solo and experimentation in new genre. HNB has, throughout his career, enriched music concerts with his violin accompaniment. His playing technique is marked by great dexterity and unfailing support born out of deep understanding of the main musician. He is a veritable bridge between the past and present generations of musicians and music-lovers which has made him a much sought after violinists!
E.M.Subramaniam, is the twenty first generation Nadaswaram artist of the Enjikkudi family from known records. Born in the year 1963 he has started performing concerts from the age of fifteen itself. Thiruvaiyaru thyagaraja aradhana, Chennai’s December seasons, Thiruvarur thyagaraja temples, and Enjikkudi’s family temple are his regular turfs of performance besides several others. The family has transformed the fine art to the younger generations in a classical fashion, and the style of Enjikkudi has evolved over the generations. He has received initial training from the age of six from his father Shri Muthukumarasami Pillai and uncle Shri Ayyasami Pillai. E.M.Subramaniam joined in the Palani Devasthanam’s music school at the age of fifteen and had arduous training from the nadaswaram legend Shri Somaskandhan Pillai.
Patri Satish Kumar was born into a family of musicians. He was initiated into the art of percussion by his mother Padmavathy, a renowned violinist and had his debut at the age of 7. A fine performer, composer and with a deep interest to innovate and explore the art form, his specialization is his precise fingering technique and the fine balance of sounds between the treble and base heads of the Mridangam. Trained by Gurus Sree Ramachandramurthy, V.A.Swami and V. Narasimhan, Satish continues to evolve a style of his own that is distinctly his own. Satish has been a regular feature in prestigious venues and festivals across India and around the world including BBC Proms at The Royal Albert Hall - London & The Music Academy - Chennai, to name a few. As a seasoned international performer Satish continues his journey in the world of percussion and is one of the most sought after mridangists in world.
Hailing from an illustrious musical lineage, V Anirudh Athreya is the great grandson of legends Sri Papa KS Venkatramiah and Alathur Sri Subbier. His grand father Vidwan Sri V Thyagarajan was also a renowned violinist. Seeing Anirudh’s keen interest in rhythm and percussion as a child, his grand uncle, Kanjira Maestro Sri V Nagarajan, instantaneously volunteered to teach him to play the Kanjira. His skills were further polished by Mridangam wizard Dr. TK Murthy. Majestic in tone, his speciality is accompanying for music and being sensitive to the melody around him. Anirudh has the unique distinction of being the youngest Kanjira artiste to have accompanied all senior artistes in the field of Carnatic Music and has been awarded the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar by the Sangeet Natak Akademi.

Brilliant concert, with all four artistes giving it their very best. This Shanmukhapriya reminds me of the famous one by Tanjore S Kalyanaraman with MS Gopalakrishnan. And why not, given that HN Bhaskar oozes MSG-like melody whenever he puts bow to strings!

Simply magnificent!!! The dialogues between the violin and the nadaswaram are joy to the ears, bliss to the soul. The percussion add another layers of beauty. The passage 16:22 to 17:38 had me dancing...some patterns echoing the minimalist style. Thank you dear artists and thank you Milapfest!
