Engwe X24 Headlight Upgrade Goes Wrong 😣 Also, fenders!

Спорт

I messed up. What I thought would be a simple upgrade turned out to be a terrible idea when I paired a headlight with WAY too high of power requirements to a controller that couldn't handle it. Ultimately, I was able to repair my controller, but this could have potentially lead to an unusable bike if I hadn't been able to replace the transistor.
An E-Bike makes a great Christmas gift, and with the holidays right around the corner, you can take the opportunity to grab your own X24! Thankfully, I was able to get everything working in the end, as the X24 is currently my absolute favorite E-Bike, and you can watch my previous review here: • Engwe X24 is my New Fa...

Alternatively could also wire the transistor output to either standard 4 pin relay or an ssr for low noise. Good video showing diagnosis of the transistor not being in saturation!

What size is the controller? What are the max amps in normal and in sport mode?

Just look for fatbike fenders in 24inch as most of them will fit. You might have to drill new holes in the fenders or bend the mount, but it will get you there for like 5$.

Hey, new x24 owner here. Im currently also looking into an upgrade to the light and was wondering if you knew, what the rated capacity of the original light was? And thanks for the video btw 😁

The original was pretty wimpy, I doubt it took more than maybe 1W. The stock circuit I think would be safe up to around 5W, possibly 10W if you want to take the risk. The light I have is a monster, and can take upwards of 30W so I am not surprised it was too much.

Your videos are a BOON for every Engwe user that will have similar problem, they will not have to scrabble through thousand badly made shaky vids from rambling dudes filmed on a potato. Chinese e-tech is in this weird state now, where it has some really good concepts and parts, but non-existent manuals, extremely clunky electronic solutions and zero technical support from the manufacturer. Videos from people that are willing to explain on their own mistakes what to do and how to address problems are always good. It will not get a lot of views, but some poor guy that has same problem as you 4 months after you released it will say 'oh my fcking G-d, thank you, that thing was driving me crazy'.
