▶Product History
When did these crafts start to craft?:600 years ago / 1400AD / Muromachi period in Japan
Ornamental metal fittings have been an indispensable part of Japanese architecture since they were used in the Horyuji Temple, the oldest wooden structure in the world. In the Momoyama period (1573-1600), decorative metal fittings came to be used not only in temples and shrines, but also in residential buildings.

He is a craftsman who has been mainly producing Shinto and Buddhist ritual objects in Shiga Prefecture for 20 years. He produces a wide range of items, from large items to be attached to shrines and Buddhist temples to small items to be attached to Buddhist altars. In addition to decorative metal fittings, he also undertakes small items for daily use and restoration work for cultural properties.
Please enjoy watching the Japanese craftsmanship!!!!

In this process we see the base of the object being hand crafted, in the next episode we see the lid being hand beaten into shape and raised to some 100mm in height the lid is then formed along with the shaping of the tab and the ring pull being riveted onto the lid, and in the final episode the top and bottom are hand soldered together with a sheet of metal to produce a can that will hold the Coka Cola.....😜

1 - Cutting - Using a chisel and hammer he scribes the outline of the shape he is going to work. 2 - Annealing - He heats up the copper so it will soften and he can then shape and work it easier. 3 - Molding - Using a hammer and shaping block he slowly draws out the copper to a dome, and then hammers the sides down to finish the shape. 4 - Anneal 2nd Time - He heats it up again to soften it to be able to continue his work. 5 - Molding Part 2 - He finishes the drawing out, and hammers the sides flat to the block. He then scribes on the side the cut line so he can even it out to the same shape all around. 6 - Filing - Using a file He files down the copper to the line He scribed before. Evening it out and making the design flat and circular. 7 - Outline & Design - He will draw and lightly carve the outline of the design he is going to create. Then he will circle in his design with tiny hammer taps to his chisels. 8 - Polishing - He polishes the copper and design to perfection removing any scrapes or scratches, and leaving smooth copper with a great design.
