    I love masking before engraving, everything looks so crisp and clean. I use a plastic razor blade to scrape off the masking, takes the tedious out of the removal process.

    For engraving on wood NOT used for food prep, I use borax before, and acrylic spray after. How does one preserve the engraving's dark color on a cutting board intended for food?

  • @MakingwithMarilyn

    @MakingwithMarilyn

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks for the idea of using borax before engraving on non-food boards used for decor. I use a mineral oil that is considered food grade for my wood cutting boards. But the one I use for truly cutting on is not engraved. Since the brown is from being burned, I think it would stay dark though. Thanks for watching!

    I'm having difficulty getting the masking tape to stick to bamboo cutting boards--is there any tricks to getting it to stick better prior to engraving? Thanks so much-your video was very helpful!

    The masking tape doesn't stick really well to the bamboo, but I do get it to stick. Maybe you could try to burnish it down if you haven't tried that?

  • @Dancopymus

    Thanks for the video; I have two questions: 1) I didn't understand if you burned or painted the bamboo! 2) Being one or the other, after doing it, do you protect the bamboo with some varnish? Thanks

    Do u fee the forge was worth 6500 dollars….? Looks cool but for 6k u could easily find a laser engraver with a larger working table for 1200-1500 dollars…? Just curious what’s so special or what people like on the glow forge to spend 6k ….? Any opinions if u have one are welcome thanks :-)

    Hello Joshy. Definitely a good and fair question. I bought the Glowforge Basic when it was $2995 after seeing a demo of it at a leather store. The Basic model is now $3995. My favorite things about the Glowforge are the camera in it so that you now exactly where your materials are, and the ease in working the cutting software. I do not pay the monthly fee for the design software since I have a free design software that I know how to use. I also have an inexpensive table top (open frame) diode laser (versus being a CO2 laser like the Glowforge). So far, I prefer the Glowforge for most things, but since the Glowforge cannot engrave on objects taller than about 2 inches, I love the diode laser for engraving on powder coated tumblers. I've had my Glowforge for quite awhile so haven't researched what else I would buy if I were starting over. If you have any specific questions about the Glowforge, let me know and I will try to answer them.
