I watch Missouri Star too. They are all about making quilts quickly. Sometimes I think people forget about how wonderful the process can be. For me, quilting is almost meditative, especially handwork. So I go at my own pace, use some old methods, and enjoy the process itself.

Hello Kate, I am a crafter but all my projects have been on hold for the last 3/4 years while I have been looking after my husband who has Dementia. John is now in a Nursing Home, (for 12 months now) . I had been visiting him every day then came lock down. I was talking to the wall for a while, catching up with jobs that had been left as I could not leave him for a second. Then... I found your you tube site and I'm hooked. I have been viewing a lot of them over a few days, so a lot of catching up to do. I now feel like I have a friend next door who I can have a cuppa with when it suits both of us, it's great. Thank you for just being there Kate. Pat.P

Dear Pat - what a journey you have been on - and how lovely that you are here and enjoying a little time to rediscover who you are! sending love, Kate xxx
I fell in love with Agnes' quilt! I decided to try my hand at English Paper Piecing. I just finished my king sized quilt! I did four panels of EPP but I kept the edges as they are and sewed it with black edging, which pops the color. I used strips of the same colors in the EPP to separate the panels and edged them again around the whole quilt. I wish I could add pictures because it turned out beautiful! Thank you for your wonderful and easy instructions!
Cat: "Madam went coo-coo again. She keeps talking to invisible people."
She challenges us to a glue stick vs basting stitch duel! 😂😂😂
The method mentioned at 20:00, folding the fabric corners and taking a stitch there, without piercing the templates, is what I use. I don't just take a regular running stitch, though, it's important for it to be a backstitch. This holds the corners so nicely, and keeps the back of the quilt very tidy for me. I like to remove papers as I go, and re-use them, so keeping the back neat really matters for me. I like that I don't ever have to worry about unpicking those stitches. I just use a thin crochet hook to grab the edge of a paper and pull it out.

I am thread basting my hexies the same way you describe. I bought myself a heart-shaped single hole punch (because it’s so cute), and after I punch out my hexie templates using my Fiskar’s XL hexie punch out of (free!) advertisements card stock, I punch a hole somewhere in the middle of each hexie card. This makes popping the templates out with a crochet hook or chopstick (after I’ve sewn hexies all the way around, of course) so easy! I plan to just leave my basting thread in. I find thread basting so soothing - it’s therapeutic! ~Diana K
It’s been fun and interesting to get back with you, Kate, and learn about hexagons and Sussex and detail and fun talking with you! I’m USA now in Florida with disability from a stroke but im still find a way to do hexagons and hand stitching! Thanks, Kate!
Hi Kate, even though this is an old video I feel I must comment. I just love watching your content and find it all so interesting. It’s a lovely day today in Portugal, I walked my dogs and mowed the grass before my breakfast so I could beat the heat! I’m now sat outside in the shade crocheting and listening to you, it’s just perfect 😊 I’m pretty isolated where I live and spend a lot of time on my own but I don’t mind, I actually like it. Thanks once again I’m so enjoying watching all your interesting videos 😊
Maybe you could hear the collective sigh of relief when your tube popped up again. You are well and on the mend, we are all so relieved. Glad to get back to paper piecing- I am on my first project ever and inspired by your colorful work.

Good to hear you are on the mend. Continue to take care of yourself, dear Kate. We will be here when you are ready. Agnes' quilt is so beautiful, she will love it!!!😊
I personally like your method of paper piecing….everything you do is WONDERFUL! I’ve discovered your channel recently and am looking at them all back and forth thru your years! I find so much inspiration and comfort relaxing with your soothing videos!! It’s just a wonderful visit, sweet lady, you with your tea and I, with my coffee in the Texas countryside! Just love you and your family….and goose and cats!🥰😘👏👏👏🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Woman, you are a happy sight for sore eyes!!!! So really glad you’re upright and taking nourishment. When you posted you were very under the weather but had been tested, well that was just a big relief. And with regards to glue tacking vs. stitch tacking, let’s just say there are no quilt police!!! If the end result is the desired result, then you’re doing it right. Again so good to see your smiling face again, keep getting rested up, I’m sure your kids have kept you in good hands.

Glad you are healing. Takes the liveliness right out of you which is why the flu is a serious illness for us who are over 60. I am 69.
Nice to see you back, happy to hear your on the mend. All well here, decluttering, it’s our mission so understanding your thoughts. We put out three red snow shovels we bought for our grandchildren when they were small, now they are 14, 15, and soon to be 17. Time is now to reorganize. Thanks for sharing and stay well. 👍❤️😊
Lovely to see you Kate ! I'm with you...I was taught to stitch my paper piecing too, but I dont stitch through through my papers. I did try the glue method and I didn't enjoy that process at all. I feel a lot more relaxed when sitting on the lounge and hand stitching them. Not everything we make has to be rushed ? Cheers to everyone on the lime green sofa 💜

I agree. One of the things I like about quilting is that it lets us create useful and beautiful items without a bunch of waste (beyond what went into making the fabric in the first place). To add glue (especially the spray glue folks use instead of basting their quilts) feels really industrial and unpleasant to me. Quilts are such sources of tactile joy adding glue (whether you'll feel it in the end or not) feels wrong to me.
I made all my hexies with the 3rd method you displayed and made a Queen size Grand-Mother Flower Garden. One suggestion, I use a punch and punch a hole in the center of the paper hexie and when it’s time to remove them, you can insert a stiletto in the hole and they just pop out, and voilà! Very quick to remove them…
So so so glad to finally hear from you. I was hoping maybe Anna would have come on real quick with an update on how you were. It was like worrying about a missing child. I’m sure a lot of your subscribers were very worried. Be well Kate, we missed you. 💐

Hi Brenda, Susan and Cathy. I was so worried. I’m so glad she’s back and feeling a little better. I would have been happy to just watch a videos of the chickens. I miss her old videos of the yard and animals and quilting. She seems to be expanding so fast that her videos have a very different feel now. I wish I could support her on patron but I’m on a very fixed income and just can’t. So I don’t get to see her other videos. I feel left out. She’s focused much more on the business side of things and has lost a little of the comforting feel of her videos. I loved watching Eileen and the hens and her garden. I will always watch and support her that way. I wish I could do more. Praying for her healing and waiting anxiously for her next video. Take care gals.

This is the first time I’ve seen your channel. I started a large quilt top in 1999 thinking I would use 2000 hexies. .its close, ach block has approx 133 pieces. It was a great travel project and I made many hexies at my daughters horse shows. Well, 20 years later I’ve determined to finish it and it will be for my granddaughter. I will finish it in 2020!
Hi!! Happy to see you again!! I love EPP!! I live in an island in the Caribbean and that hand sewing work make me feel happy, can think a lot and listen to everything around me. God bless you!!

Hi Lori, how's your day going with you?
Glad you're getting better. It's therapeutic sewing hexegans. Cutting Edge Crafts in UK are a good place to get Sizzix machines. They do good deals. I saw a lady from Australia demonstrate her sticky glue for hexagons on Missouri Star a while ago. Jenny from Missouri star designs for Sizzix. I have to say my sizzix machine's are very good quality. I find quilting fabric so expensive now, so I'm dying my own. Stay safe everyone 👋😁💙
Absolutely love the British Isles hanging 😊😊
Oh Kate, it's so good to see and hear you again, and best of all, to know that you're on the mend. You are so right about resting and keeping hydrated. Very important. I sorely missed you, and checked every day to see if there might be a new post. But please don't over-do, and give yourself plenty of recovery time. I too like to baste my fabric to my templates for EPP, although I've tried the glue stick method. I like that it's easy to pull out those basting threads, and maybe more fun as well. Love Agnes' quilt, and also the UK Map quilt. The colors for both are beautiful. Oh yes, and it's nice to see Cat Rita as well.
Hey Kate ! ! LOVE the big smile on your face after you got your hair cut ! Isn't that such a great feeling ! ! I cut mine yesterday and it is shorter than yours ! ! I go kind of crazy with my scissors sometimes . It is so HOT here in Utah and I love feeling the air moving over my head ! ! So glad you are feeling better, prayers for a full recovery. Can't wait for your shop surprise. ((hugs)) Ann
I'm watching this to learn EPP and realize it is 3 years old. I am pleased to report that Kate is better than ever and extremely strong and agile as she puts the finishing touches on her cabin. What an amazing artist she is!
Great timing for a discussion of EPP! Karen Brown (Just Get it Done Quilts) just shared her progress on the quilt she's making from the book New Hexagon Millefiore by Marek Katja. I've never done EPP, but have found myself returning to the idea of that amazing hexie EPP millefiore quilt. Thanks for sharing your insights on this approach! So glad you're feeling better. Do take care!
So happy to have you back! I've been checking in to see if you were back every day. I missed you just as much as if you were a friend down the block here in Austin TX! With the Covid situation I was so worried that it might be that and I'm so thankful it was not. Take care and know we consider you a close friend. Hand sewing has always been an important part of my work but don't think I have the patience to try hexagons. The ones you do are lovely!
So lovely to have you back. Just take your time. Wishing you the best.
I made a grandmothers flower garden with the same technique as yours. It was one of the first quilting techniques I learned years ago. I also hand quilted it-it was a queen size and took me years to finish!
So happy to see you, Kate. Continue to be gentle with yourself as you recover. It takes longer than we expect it to. Have a lovely rest. We have missed your preciousness. 💕
So lovely to see you back. Get well soon. Sending lots of love xx
Kate it is lovely to have you back and to hear that you are on the mend. xx
Dear Kate how we have missed you. So glad you are on the mend. I have been guilting for over 50 years. The thing I love most about quilting is learning the different methods to achieve the same results. We get to choose what works for each of us no one way is wrong. Love your hair cut.

Thank you, Kate. love the bit right at the ned hee hee , feeling light-headed that day then lol ,, Love seeing your UK wall panel again it is so beautiful and Agnes, quilt is growing fast and looks so calming in the colours you are using, I have 4 different hand-cranking machines that I cut my hexagons from 2 small ones, one that is A5 size platform and one that is A 4 size platform, I have 1000s of dies as you know I do paper crafting so use them for that,, have a beautiful week x x

Can't imagine removing papers that had been glued in, even lightly. I use that last method of corner stitches that don't go thru the paper and it does make it very easy to remove papers. Your mum's method is grand and I'm glad you're keeping her with you in that way. SO happy to see you ... love to you and the girls. 😍😍😍
Ahhh Kate, how lovely to see you back. Glad you are feeling better and on the road to 100%. I Am in total agreement about tacking the hexagons. Sometimes the old ways are the best ways. Very happy to see you Kate. Love to you and your family. Yes, stitiching no glueing. Stitching is traditional, less fiddly and can be done anywhere. Stitching is the therapeutic way. Every stitch is stitched with love and every quilt has a story. Love your stories Kate. Look after yourself dear, rest as much as possible 😘.
I’ve experimented with using glue on my paper piecing. I have to say I didn’t like it very much, the finished pieces just didn’t seem to feel the same to handle as when you tack them so tacking it will still be for me. Btw, maybe you need more than one covid test Kate. I know people who’ve had it and (Harrogate, whoops, that’s where I live 😁😁 ) tested negative then when tested quite a while after recovering tested positive, anyway depends how necessary you feel it is.

I’m so happy to see your smiling face Kate and hear your voice. Take your time getting better. I’ve been well thank the Lord. I remember the video about your mom’s quilt, you said you’d leave it on your bed because it was your birthday. Beautiful quilt. Glad you’re back.
It's the end of Feb 2024 and I've just watched this video. I did have a big smile on my face when you showed at the end how you had your hair cut. I was in the same boat as you yesterday....I was desperate to get it cut. And the smile came when you said how much hair was on the floor because that's exactly what I said to my husband when I walked through the door. Well Kate, I think you're wonderful and I'm so pleased that I've found your channel. Thank you ❤
I came to quilting late, about 6 years ago. I found epp a first love and learned by watching all the tutorials available. (What a lovely time to finally move on a skill you have so long admired.) I was taught to use glue stick on applying fabric to paper. I found it very tedious. I tried tacking it with thread as you do and loved it. A relaxing process. The only difference I don’t sew through the paper, just the folded fabric. Thanks for all the time you take to share there delightful skills.
Never heard of this technique before. Its intriguing. Been sowing a lot by hand cause my kids wont allow me to work continuously on my sowing machine for an hour or so. Hand sowing work is way easier to put away quickly. Especially important when curious little fingers want to try everything and especially press every button.
So glad youre on the mend. Keep an eye on your ear so it doesnt turn into an infection..God love you😊🤗 i think you need a lovely cup of tea

So glad you are better and that it wasn't the dreaded covid. Flu is not good either. I also been doing hexies. Have a new great grand daughter coming in Jan. I don't glue hexies and I don't stitch through the paper. Just do a tack stitch at the fold only tying off at the end. I will stitch too. Again so glad you are better. Blessings.

good evening Kate, i love your pink Liberty hexes of the British Isles, and although i wouldn't have the patience nor the hands to do such a lovely piece of art, i love your pink sea. With modern convenience comes some strife as well and there is nothing like taking your time to set the world to rights again and enjoy passing a beautiful afternoon with something in your hands that you can say that you made that. Everybody seems to be in a rush nowadays and why, because life it's self goes past at an alarming rate with no help from anything or anybody. Crafty hugs, Norah, Glenochil, Central Scotland
I have used both methods in paper piecing, and I had a little trouble removing the papers when they are glued, even if it is called a " temporary" glue. Glad I found you on You Tube!
Inspired by Agnes’ quilt, I’ve started a hexi too! I’m just finishing the process of hand cutting and basting the hexagons, Soon to start stitching them all together. I’ve chosen 1.5 inch as my hexi size, so unfortunately they’re too big for many of my scraps. I’m proud to have dived right into my impressive designer stash! My daughter has declared it hers, lol. Tula Pink has an EXCELLENT video series on the process and tools she uses, which I highly recommend. She has a style which leaves no-show stitching on front of the joined pieces. Mine will be King size, constructed in a fluid, flowy rainbow of colors. I plan to hand quilt it. The only time a machine will touch it will be to attach the binding.
Beautiful,I've never done paper piecing before so really enjoyed your video, another thing I noticed on your windows, lovely patch work curtains have you done a video on how to make them , would love to see it , well that's enough from me. Take care Kate do look after yourself lots of people really appreciate you Bye from Australia 🌏🦘
Jenny, pffft! Who wants glue all over their fabric? 😁 Especially when you hand wash only! So glad to see you again. Hope your ear is much better. Take care.
My dear Kate, I never miss your videos. I'm so sorry to hear you've been ill, and so happy you are on the mend. I've missed you. Rest up and come again soon.

Hi Kate, it was so lovely to see you 😊. Im glad your getting better and can’t wait to see you next time. You have inspired me to make lots of things, I have made the journals and found sewing the pages in my favourite part. I’m going to make the dog next out of the 1 1/2 inch squares 😊. Take care and thank you for sharing your skills/talents and family 😊 with all of us. Missed seeing a cat today 😊 xxx
Oh Kate. I am SO happy to see you again and so pleased you are feeling a little better. You inspired me to have a first attempt at EPP, so started a Covid Quilt with scraps. I have to tell you (and hope you forgive me), but I DID start with tacking!! THEN, I found pre-cut hexagons on Amazon and glue sticksc (sorry), but, in true Kate fashion, with the Amazon packing, I made a template 1/2" bigger (6 sheets of card stuck together with Pritstic) and am using a small roller blade to cut fabric. So, I am now about 260 hexies along and JUST as I was getting a bit fed up with it, UP YOU POPPED THIS MORNING and I am re-invigorated to keep going. It will never be an Agnes quilt, but, like you, I have developed a love of hand stitching, which can be done while watching TV and in lunch breaks at work (I am in the NHS and need brain ease occasionally) 😉. I just wanted to say, I found you a few months ago and can't tell you how much company you have been. In fact, this week, even my long suffering darling husband has been asking "any news of Kate". Be assured Kate, you are loved and cherished by so many. Keep well mate xxx

oh - what a gorgeous comment! hello to the husband too! awww - great that you are enjoying hexagons! they are the perfect 'take along' project! enjoy xxxx
It's been lovely "meeting" you. My mother and sister were big quilters, Some paper pieced. I have made baby quilts, squares and a few crazy. I like this style, I may try it soon. I am also an Anglophile. I pray you get up to snuff asap. Be well.🍀🌞🐦🤗🌺🙏
It is very nice to listen to your stories and I like not using glue etc. Thanks.
Thanks for persevering and making a video. Like your hair cut. I too like shorter hair. Jenny does like to find a "short cut" to doing quilting. Sometimes that's okay, but sometimes hand stitching is just the ticket. Her daughter's name is Natalie. Glad you are almost well.
So glad to see you. You have been missed. Wanted to Let You know I have been hand quilting like you do. I love It fingers get a bit sore. Take care.
