    4 жыл бұрын

Everywhere the captions translate the Francophone as saying "Go to hell" he's actually saying something more along the lines of "Eat shit" (literally it's "go shit" but the sentiment is more akin to "Eat Shit"). Just a note on one of the more repeated mistranslations but there are others and there particularly annoying as a bilingual FrancoOntarienne forced to listen while reading something different in the captions. BTW regarding the current climate emergency you DEFINITELY live in a conservative bubble, I'm 10yrs older than you and very much connect with the issues Thomas mentions in this regard. ALSO, about Canadians not seeing federal meddling in provincial projects from a provincial lens you need to connect with some Northern Ontarians to learn that this isn't a purely Québecois issue as many of us in Northern Ontario have strong feelings about federal help regarding Toronto projects while refusing to do their part in the same way in N.O.

Aight, it's history time. During the 70s, the FLQ was so infiltrated by the RCMP that a police captain famously said 'In 1972, the FLQ was us'. Check out Commission Keable, which lead to 17 RCMP officers being jailed for state terrorism. Also we know of that because an officer blew his hands off while posing one of the bomb mentionned around 3:30. He then said "I did much worse thing in the name of the RCMP"... which wasnt the best thing to say. Guy probably though the organisation was untouchable. Anyway, it's a great piece of trivia, especially in a conversation where people try to discredit the independantist movement with the FLQ.

This was really cool. I live and grew up in Alberta (dad in the oilpatch all that stuff) so I've always had a very myopic view of Quebec. The sort of stereotype around it being this weird wonderful land of maple syrup, poutine and a big winter fun time party full of strange people who I'm supposed to hate and who all apparently hate me. My understanding of Quebec politics is vauge and confused at best so it was pretty awesome to get a glimpse into Thomas' perspective and JJ's exposition. There is a lot of what he says that I disagree with, even though I am, by Alberta standards at least fairly left-wing myself particularly on social issues but I think one of the big problems that exists perpetually in politics and seems to be growing is a nasty tendency to demonize those we disagree with. Human nature, sure, but we seem to be going through one of our periodic rough patches right now so it was really interesting to see the two of you carry out a relatively civilized debate in a rather innovative format.

My gosh, watching this after having been trenched in American politics for that last four years, it's like night and day. The way you two talk to each other and about each other is so calm, and seems so polite compared to American politics.

You kind of entered the dark age of american politics and it's sad, because it seems they think winning an argument is by speaking louder than the opponent... This narrative continues in social media, which is stupid because everybody is entitled to his/her opinion. We're becoming so intolerant trying to prone tolerance that we're censoring everybody, cancelling everybody and calling everybody racist, xenophobic, homophobic and so on just because it doesn't fit the agenda we're trying to push. Tbh I feel like we're getting through the dark age of the contemporary world and social media era. Quite sad to see. I don,t if it's only because the Americans are the center of the economic world so more coverage or if it's becoming the same everywhere but it's truly sad...

From an outsiders opinion, (Canadian), it seems to be so politically toxic in the United States because of how taboo politics has become. It's perfectly normal and expected to not like someone based on their political leanings. The whole purpose we have government is to address these societal contentions without resorting to violence, but now with the U.S. government barely functioning, we're now starting to see all of the societal pressure in the United States being released through violence on the streets, instead of debates on the floors of congress.

Nobody really won that war. It was a stalemate IMHO and if Canada wants to think they won it, then let them.

It’s nice to see you’re sharing a common goal of informing people the best you can. And are both willing to show the two sides of the medal.

I love this guy, Thomas, especially the way he speaks, and says, "Alors va te faire foutre, mon cher Andrew". My auntie was wrong: Canadian French is not gibberish. Thomas is very clear. The French language is beautiful, including as spoken in Canada !

As someone who grew up under the Bush Jr. administration (9/11 happened when I was in kindergarten) I sympathize a lot with Thomas' dislike of Stephen Harper. I find your point about a generation gap very meaningful, it's a lot easier to feel anxious over everything if that's the political climate you grew up in. Would my generation be more moderate if they grew up in the less tumultuous early 90s, rather than during the War on Terror?

queenkebick good job and it’s wonderful to see someone so young take an active interest in our elections. Always: talk to a trusted source of info, do your research, do a gut check, vote as you see fit all while keeping in mind that sometimes it’s about what’s best for Canada and not ourselves personally. Ignore any naysayers, as JJ actually has excellent video’s that are well thought out, researched and fair in presentation. The usual dissenters tend to be the disaffected in the Province of Quebec. Remember it’s hard for some to understand or respect that THEIR feelings do NOT trump facts. Again, congratulations on voting! Peace out ✌🏻

Cole deBeer hi, have no idea of what you’re trying to say or what you mean AND nor do I care! YOUR opinions mean nothing to me and are your own. IF, you have issues that’s your problem and not mine. But, by the sarcastic tone I’ll rightfully assume I’m correct and you’ve been triggered by my opinions. Facts trump your poor little feelings! Good, Am glad to hear it as this is NOT a safe space and I’m NOT providing crayons and colouring books for special snowflakes ❄️. As they say in the South: Bless your heart
