The disrespect from McManama is unreal, Netherlands is not a good team but a decent team. So a team that got into a semi final is not a good team? The team that Argentina only beat with penalties at the last world cup really? At least Netherlands lost in the last world cup on penalties vs major teams (Argentina twice) than england who lost before penalties vs Croatia and France. England hasn't won anything since 66, be humble. In the last 40 years Netherlands got on average further than England.

England have been better as of recent, 3 semi finals in 4 major tournaments + a tight quarter vs France. Netherlands are a decent team, they aren't a top team like Spain, France, Portugal, Germany. Netherlands haven't really been very good in this tournament either, they've rode their luck quite a bit. Third in the group when they played Poland without Lewandowski, France without Mbappe, lost to Austria, a result that flattered them vs Romania & a pretty close game vs Turkey who also had one of their most important/best players suspended. There is an overall difference of quality player for player between Netherlands and England, on paper it's very obvious who should win - but both teams have been poor so pretty much anything can happen and nobody is saying otherwise.

The opposition England have played, and mostly will play, do not have a squad with the depth of England. Secondly, you have the option of making tactical as well as personnel adjustments to counter any of the opponents moves. Football at a high level is a tad chess like, and most fans expect to see a Man City vs Sheffield Utd result, which rarely happens. England are happy to wear down the opposition, knowing also that most replacements offer the same quality. Add that most goals are scored because of defensive mistakes and not genius play, England have a good winning formula. Not pretty but proven effective. Germany in 90', Brasil in 94', or Italy (in any tournament) were very similar. The "try not to lose" tactic.

@@lastpenny849I’d agree with you totally if the games were boring but we were winning without letting them near our goal. But each team has been able to penetrate and get very good chances on goal, it’s just pure luck and a bit of poor finishing from lower ranked teams that have seen us scrape the games to get us where we are. I agree international is like a game of chess but allowing the opponents the chances we have done so far Holland, Spain and France will demolish us as when they get the chance they will likely convert with the quality they have in attack.

@@Oldyellowbrick The old saying that you play what is in front of you is often true. England haven't been good, but they also haven't lost a game yet. So, if they actually play well, you could argue no other team should beat them. Only Spain have looked cohesive, and they are missing 4-5 starters for the semi. France haven't scored from open play yet and Holland were beaten by Austria. Not one team remaining is scary, and if England play better than the previous game, they will prevail.
The Dutch will win. That Malen lad will have a field day, great player.

If I were Netherlands I would go all out attack against England. Southgate's team has been utterly toothless going forward as evident by having just 2 shots on targets in the last 180-min regular game time. The Netherlands can win by 2+ goals if they keep on attacking England.

England reminds me of my Uni experience - barely turned up but focused on the assignments and ended up getting a first class honours degree (equivalent to a Summa cum laude for those in the US)
Kanes scored two important goals. Its not easy being a striker these days when all defenders and midfielders play safe ans backpass every single time. Keeper gets more touches than strikers. Is that the kind of game people really want to watch

Netherlands are the hardest team England's faced so far, we've got quite lucky to get to the semis the way we've played. This will be a tough game to win for England I think but lucks on our side so maybe another pen or ET win ?

On paper, England is a much more talented team that are playing well below expectations. Their coach is handcuffing the stars with his decision-making. The Dutch have missed multiple opportunities over the years with generational talent on their rosters. I suddenly remembered the 2010 World Cup semi final between Spain and Germany. Spain just passed and passed and passed the ball through the entire game and bored me to death. It's funny how people say England haven't played a good team & the Dutch are much better than anything they've faced when in the previous round everyone was saying how good Switzerland is & people had them making the final in their predictions, football fans have memory loss. You're only good as a team until England beat you, then you're worthless. England have played poor but they haven't lost a game & they have a belief in the squad, they've become comfortable with extra time, penalties & adversity. England couldn't have had an easier route to the semis if they bribed Uefa.
England had an easy route to the final. Holland is the first decent team they’ve faced. UEFA and FIFA need to look at how the draw the groups, and make them more balanced. No team should get an easy route to the semi-final of a tournament. Look at the other side of the draw. Or are these draws rigged to give England the best chance possible to win something? I believe they underestimate the Dutch. England had a lot of problems with teams like Slovakia. And Serbia was their only real win in the groupstage. If they don’t step up they will lose. It will not depend on Southgate but fully on the players. I only saw some slight improvement against the Swiss. But it is not enough. He wants to play with Saka on the right wing just like in the game with Switzerland. But defensively Saka is vulnerable. They are lucky that the attacking forward of the Dutch is also not playing that well. But when he scores and plays well it is game over.
I think this is a bad match up for England. Netherland will and can score goals. England needs to score first to have a chance.

The chance to utilise squad players in the early games came and went. If he didn’t take big names off then he’s not going to do it in a semi… could have had fully fit, rested Bellingham / Kane / Foden but what we have are weary players off their game

The only way England win is Southgate wakes up or we get to penalties and Kane is off. If Kane takes one we lose
When you actually think about, the fact we have been in pretty much every euros and world cup and we have only won one world cup is absolutely pathetic
No issue to start Kane but need to make substitutions much quicker than Southgate has done so far in the tournament.
Blaming Kane as if the midfield has created chances for him that he has missed. He has an xG of 2.0 in the tournament and has scored 2 goals.

If Southgate plays Saka at RWB England's defense will get exposed. Gakpo, Depay and Simons will connect on the left side of the pitch and cause problems for Saka, Walker, and Mainoo. I think Southgate goes with a back four and Shaw starts.
