England’s Cruelest Ruler
Ойын-сауық
Born a royal heir into the very lap of luxury, King George IV somehow managed to push the envelope of excess even further. Never was a king so depraved, so cruel, or so obscene-and we’re talking about the English monarchy here. From his dark family secrets to his mega embarrassing end, you’re going to want to pour a jumbo glass out for this one.

My great great great grandfather left london in the late 1700s because life was so horrible, mass deaths under both kings. Starving and freezing to death. He was 15 years old already 2 siblings died. He had no choices but to flee on a ship to anywhere.
Not only did George IV have variegate porphyria VP like his father he appears to have passed this metabolic disorder on to his daughter, Charlotte. Normally she would have a 50% chance of inheriting VP but her mother, Caroline of Brunswick was George IV's first cousin. If she too had VP then it was inevitable that Charlotte inherit it.
Bless you for using the cartoons of James Gillray.
His whole reign was the last years of his reign.
Royalty really went to George IV's head. What a POS. Thanks for the entertaining episode!
Back then, being chubby was considered as 'attractive' because it signified wealth. As opposed to these days where being chubby/fat symbolizes poverty or coming from lower social status!
"Delicate Investigation..." The past was a really unpleasant place.
So sad! What happened to their daughter, I mean.
The cartoon pics of him say A LOT 😆
She died in child birth

And her poor son essentially was too big to have been borne through the birth canal before he suffocated and was stillborn. One of the most maddening 'if onlys' about this is that there WERE forceps brought to the Princess's birth chamber but,for reasons unclear, the doctors refused to use them! Perhaps, had they done so her son might have been born alive and Princess Charlotte of Wales may have not had that fatal hemorrhage. In any case, they both died and virtually every household in Great Britain intensely mourned her 'as though they had each lost a favorite daughter'!

Forceps were not permitted in this Princess’s room. That is because the Bible says women were meant to suffer.

@@sandranorman5469 Luckily for many future British women, when her cousin Victoria became Queen (and Supreme Governor of the Church of England) she endorsed chloroform for women in labor after having had a smoother 8th delivery than the previous seven.

@@sandranorman5469wow just take the Bible out of context 😮 never did God ever once say leave a woman in pain. Amazing they catch the first half of a woman's punishment but skips the rest of the sentence? 😮
I live in Brighton, a town made fashionable by Georgie Porgie. Who took a rather pleasant palladian farm house, and turned it into one of the more barking mad houses constructed by the money made by Empire. Externally it's sort of inspired by the architecture of The Indian Sub-Continent, internally it's Chinoiserie made by the first breaths of the industrial revolution. It's looks like the designer was partaking of industrial strength psychedelics! I love the place, Queen Victoria didn't and gave it, along with a huge circular stables, to the local council. Look up pictures of The Brighton Pavilion, interior and exterior. The stables is now a performance venue, where I saw bands from Ziggy Stardust through Tom Paxton to The Jam, The Members and Elvis Costello.
Can see where the Am Rev & US Con came from
Was it unfashionable or looked down upon to grow a beard like King Henry 8 did? ( I don’t think it hid his girth.)
Thomas Denman (later Lord Denman), of Queen Caroline's defence team for the divorce, was one of my ancestors. Caroline was a very interesting woman, her life is well described in Antonia Fraser's biography 'The Unruly Queen'.
He isn't even in the running. Anyone just from William the Conqueror on; Plantagenets, Tudors ( esp. Henry VIII ), James II ( a smirking psychopath ), up to Victoria's father ( a demented flogger.of his soldiers.)
They are The Guards, not "The King's Guard".

They trace their history back to The Civil War.
I'm a 7th generation Floridian. I directly descend from Hugh Crawford who was the Uncle of William Wallace. My family arrived here in the United States on the same voyage as George Washington. The Washington/Crawford papers are on file in the National Archives.
A real human dictating this documentary would have held and kept my interest.

Beau BRUMMel, not Beau BrummEL Book of Common Prayer, not Common Book of Prayers And a score of other errors. I want to like and respect these, what sound like young, history enthusiasts but they are sloppy and ill-informed.
And as the poet Walter Savage Lander wrote, "I say of Georges 4 for the Country could stand no more, of George the First was always reckoned Vile, but viler George the Second; And what mortal ever heard Any good of George the Third? When from earth the Fourth descended (God be praised!) the Georges ended.
