Got us to a final though. I've watched gazza try and save us, and a better golden generation do nothing! Yet, Southgates boring and negative football got us to a final. Group games are designed to allow teams to develop form and build confidence. Of course our first game isn't going to be our best.

fully agree with you.. Bellingham was fire for 15 mins.. and continued to dominate the game in the first half... in second half he was pretty anonymous. Rice had to perform for 90mins. He might not do anything flashy, but he's the glue that holds it altogether.

Thankfully the Saka and Foden comparisons are over. The mainstream really wanted Foden to be better than Saka but it just never worked out. Unlucky

Bellingham is not a typical number 10 like they say here. He was playing off the left, he was coming deep to dictate play, he was an 8, a 10 and he was playing as a 3 in midfield. It's much more fluid and inter changeble than these pundits give it credit for.

what the OTHER players need to realize, while he's doing all this stuff, they need to drop into the pockets of space that he leaves behind...Rice was. Were Trent and Foden?? Against a better side, this marauding style might cause some problems, but the gaps it leaves might create some issues for Rice if he's left to protect the back 4 by himself.

France, Germany, Italy and Portugal would all exploit this. England are short a central midfielder and a fit left back. It's a shame. I still back the team but the only way they get through these problems is supporting each other like beasts when they don't have the ball.

Aaron Ramsdale is England's second best goalkeeper behind Pickford. Neither Foden nor Ramsdale should be playing on the left wing. They should be there as an injury replacement or in Bellingham's case a red card when he gets sent off for dissent. Foden is a useful substitute for Gordon and possibly Eze too but in the last couple of games I've seen him in, FA Cup final and tonight, he isn't the best English player in any position and should therefore not be playing from the start. This idea of shoehorning him in a clearly unsuitable position because he's had a good season is completely illogical and impossible to justify. Especially when the evidence is before our very eyes.

Blah blah blah. Trent was pap, foden was pap, Kane was average. Drop Gallagher in for Trent, Gordon on for foden and be prepared to get Kane off because he couldn’t press a pair of trousers.

Southgate doing with Foden, what his predecessors did with Scholes. Playing him out of position just to shoe horn him in. If you must play Bellingham and Foden in the same side… Bellingham has to play 8, he did it for Dortmund and won POTY. He might not be as much as threat in the box, but the midfield will be more robust because everyone would be playing in more natural positions. Foden as a 10, and Trent is NOT a CM. This is why leaving out Grealish was such a stupid move because he plays LW and this Serbia game was a perfect game for him… he’s a ball carrier and would of kept possession.

Some of the issue is not having a left footed fullback.

All down to management at the end of the day. We can have the best players in the world but if we dont have a coach who knows how to get the best out of everyone in their correct positions it'll be very difficult to win the tournament or even get very far for that matter. Foden out of position, Trent out of position, Trippier out of position which has a knock on effect to everyone else in the team. Add that to the conservative nature of Gareths tactics (get a goal ahead and then park the bus), when we play against a spain, germany, france, netherlands etc we will get found out eventually. Im not a professional coach and am not privy to the training, however i'd leave Rice to hold the midfield by himself, with Jude along side him as a more of CM who makes runs into the box. That gives Foden the opportunity to play as the CAM where he can actually influence the game. Front 3 you can pick anyone, theres that much quality. Kane/Watkins/Toney CF and Saka/Eze/Gordon/Palmer on either wings. 4-1-2-3 formation.

Southgate wouldn't motivate a cat catching a mouse in a shoebox, that's what happened. Unless the squad disregards his awful tactics it's bye bye at the quarter finals or semi's best case

England's weakness in a weird way is having too many top players to choose from, sometimes it is easier to just have 6 or so to build a team around. Foden is best as a 10 but he isnt getting picked over Bellingham, I would rather he was benched and rotated with Jude than play out of position on the LW. England will never win anything as long as they employ mediocre managers though.

WTH do some pundits have England as one of the favourites? Gareth has no clue in tournaments as usual. Please don't keep him. Without Jude, England would be out in the group stage. They still could be, still two games to lose.

Why is everyone insisting on Foden playing at 10 when he's always played on the wing for City? What he does and how he uses space is what needs addressing, not where he starts.

England got lucky they played a team with a number 10 that can't play more than 45 minutes. We have no creativity without Tadić. England defended really well tho, so did we actually, didn't really expect England to get only three real chances for the whole game.

If we have all this forward talent, why didn't we put it on the pitch around 55 mins, and given Serbia a fresh set of problems to solve? Their coach, unlike ours, seemed to know what he was doing.

Crying out for Gordon to come on for Foden...I love Foden but it wasn't his night and the call had to be made. About 60 / 70 mins in with Bowen on the right and Gordon on the left Serbia would have had a lot to think about.

Southgate dross and a fear of recognizing Kane is being crap, he should be taken off. Game 2nd half was made for Watkins to run in behind or Toney who plays for a team that is accustomed to 30% possession. But a win despite Southgate's fear and ineptitude . Foden must be benched. We didn't look good. Awful first 25 minutes, and for the rest of the game we didn't know what to do with the ball. Taking off Mitrović instead of Vlahović was a mistake. Also Tadić being unable to play the whole game hurts us pretty bad, because without him we have no creativity.

We're a funny team, we can probably on a good day beat anyone, and when things go south we can lose to the worst of them. I'm from Serbia, and second half was similar to our Portugal game in Lisbon in last World Cup qualifiers when we won, and Portugal could not get initiative, but the difference is that England had better defense. Serbia can do well when we play as a team, but it doesn't happen often.

Remember when West Ham fans used to call Rice world class? Shows how easily English fans believe the hype. Only Bellingham in that squad is truly world class and even he has picked up an unpleasant sense of entitlement that wasn't present before his year at Real Madrid. Perhaps the greatest example of the Emperor's Clothing is Foden. There's not another player in England who can see the opportunity for and then execute so unerringly a three yard pass.
