A lot of it in the first round was boring. As it turned out there was very little to beat in Spain. All the major countries suffered with injuries or other problems and Brazil proved to have, not a team, but only a brilliant midfield.

Wonnderfull WC, Brazil the best but the worst teams in final…

Great WC. Brazilian team was unforgettable.

Some of the matches remain in memory. This is one of them. Amazing that England played in WC 12 yrs back in Mexico and missed the rest of the 70s.

Soler's was the only goal allowed by Shilton in that World Cup in 6 games.

Interesting fact and anyways a great game. England played France and Germany and was not worse. Might have played in the final. England's stoic straight and solid football might have been a good medicine for Italy, but well. Things happened as they happened and it is like it is.

The last time England beat France in a competition

Pas dégueu les anglais en 82, avec Shilton, Robson, Francis, Mariner. Ils avaient survolé le premier tour, mais le système à deux tours, ça ne leur a pas réussi. De notre côté, Hidalgo avait aligné une compo un poil frileuse en blindant le milieu avec Larios et Girard, ça manquait de fluidité dans le jeu (corrigé par la suite) Et on leur offre sur un plateau les buts du 2-1 (mauvaise sortie d'Ettori) et du 3-1 (Trésor qui foire son dégagement)

An exciting game, and the first 2 goals were very good. The last goal of the game was a bit unlucky for the French defender because he didn't have much time to react to the ball, but on the other hand Mariner didn't have much time to pick his spot.

Michel Hidalgo didn't do himself any favours here by handing the initiative to England and playing some more physical players than normal instead of picking Tigana and Genghini.

Why do all your replays start like a millisecond before the ball hits the net? Maybe you're worried about copyright but it gets to the point where I don't want to sub to this channel.

La chatte de finir 2ème après ce match offert aux anglais (que de fautes grossières de défense) a permis à la France de filer facilement en demi-finale. Oui 2ème tour tranquille Autriche (sans Platini) et Irlande du Nord. Les Anglais se tapent eux la RFA et l'Espagne (pays organisateur). La demi contre les allemands on la connait tous😢😢

Les Brittons étaient forts àcette époque : au but de Robson je me souviens m'etre dit "alleeeez c'est reparti". Car méme si on sentait un ersatz de renouveau depuis la campagne de 78 , l'EDF n'était pas encore transcendante. Jamais nous n'aurions pensé à ce qui allait suivre. Il faut dire que nous n'avions pas été gâtés jusqu'alors avec nos amis de l'EDF. Méme l'entraineur sélectionneur QQ années plus tot, nous avions été obligés d'aller le chercher en Roumanie.

Ben oui....Quand on revoit des interviews d'autres sélectionneurs, sur l'edf de l'époque, ils font mines de lui trouver des qualités mais au final se mettent à rire. Personne n'avait perçu leur niveau, et certainement pas eux memes

We never lost a game! The bloody group stage was ridiculous. However I doubt we would have beaten Italy.

The editing is terrible. One can't see the beginning of action on the first goal for instance… The original image was in 4:3 format and you stretched it stupidly to fit a 16:9 format…
