Engineering Marvels of the Sea | How Did They Build That? | Spark
Ғылым және технология
An investigation into the greatest man-made structures of all time, exploring how new materials and construction techniques have allowed engineers, builders, and architects to work to the limits of their ability. The series focuses on the buildings that re-wrote the rulebook and the architects, engineers, and builders who made the impossible possible.
This episode looks into the impressive structures of out to sea oil rigs and ships

I love it when shows like this series have a presenter who readily shows just how much they love the subject they are discussing, and if you also have a penchant for the subject, it is contagious. With this show, I find myself smiling and grinning, this interaction with the show makes the information given within it cement into my brain all the better. (maybe it is no wonder that my favorite show ever is Time Team, with the way they ran that show for 20 years)
Am i the only one here not watching at 2 am because of a tiktok or tweet? Like I just am genuinely curious about this and decided to watch at a normal-ish time.

I am not an architect or an engineer but I find this show fascinating, not least because of Scott's enthusiasm in his presenting manner. What a great series, thank you.
I came here looking for how oil rigs are built and instead, I was given a long intro with elevator music.

Randomly wondered about oil rigs at work. I want to visit one, sign my name on the wall. :) They seem pretty peaceful and separate from the rest of the world despite also seeming dangerous. Was surprised to see the pillars are hollow!

Human ingeniosity, and yet some idiots claim that men were not smart enough to build the pyramids, they needed extraterrestrial intervention.

@@Alexander-Kurtz people who say Pyramids are of Extraterrestrial origin quite ignore the existence of the Step Pyramid the Mastaba . This shows that the design of Pyramids evolved over time and didn't happen overnight . I think it was Carl Sagan who said by attributing the building of these magnificent structures to Aliens we are doing a grave injustice to Human Ingenuity and Ability

With extraterrestrials existence now being confirmed by world governments I think that may be the more reasonable theory lmao.
Just imagine having a coworker go crazy on the rig and when you’re down in the pillars or anywhere on the rig, you get murdered and tossed off into the raging sea never to be found

24 minute video to show 1 minute of how they built the oil rig at sea. Apart from this it's still amazing!

Rotterdam's storm surge barrier is truly an impressive piece of engineering but sadly, *WHEN* the ocean decides to reclaim what's rightfully it's, that surge barrier may just as well never have existed. It'll be swept aside like a child's toy against the might of the water.
I can see a oil rig just looking out of my office window . I was always wondered how they build that structure on the sea. Now I know how.

It's hollow inside , so becomes just like a ship and when they want drown it they fill water , place the suction cups and remove the water again.
