Check that lever on the back of the fuel pump where the cord is attached ,it might be left in the shut off position .

Thanks that was what I was wondering a s well something like that, reduction box is in parts at the moment so once it is back together we can have a look at why and this is most likely the issue I

Air in fuel lines or water in diesel, nothing else will stop an old Gardner. Could be worth getting proper fuel filters eg racor type. Fuel filters need draining weekly for water and replacing every few months.

Thanks have a new Racor Fuel filter installed, just waiting on some work to be done on the reduction box, loose nut the locking bolt was sliding up and down the shaft and caused some damage,
