Those engines will take you around the world without stopping as long as they have diesel.

Having worked on Gardner engines many years ago I know that they are beautifully built, quality engines and I love the sound of them.

The sound on this media doesn't do these engines justice, they sound 100 times better up close and personal, beautiful work though.

Very nice to see them rebuilt and reinstalled instead of a repower with modern engines

Nice work! Lovely to hear the low-intensity, relaxed clackety-clack of those Gardners. After a rebuild I expect they'll chug along for another 50 years.

I have been a marine engineer for over fifty years. I trained in Germany. I really appreciate quality workmanship and that has it in spadefulls.

They was a great boat as a trawler built at Berwick upon Tweed . Is this the one they used in the 1971 film with Anthony Hopkins? Had gardners in my own boats you just can kill them but never had any of the turbos

It is excellent you are keeping a Gardner alive. In my opinion, Gardner is the Rolls-Royce of Diesels. May I correct you on your engine? Having served a 2-week engine rebuild course at the Gardner factory in 1983. Gardner brought this engine into production in 1983. It is a 6LYDT and not a 6LXDT. Keep up the great work. 😄

Great boat . What is the range on this refit Gardner ? Wonder how much better two Cummins QSB6.7 ‘Slimline’ 355hp would do on a vessel like that. The perfect Helipad Trawler for Rotor X Helicopter

I wonder how many Volvo or Yanmar engines will still be working hard after 50 or 60 years?

In the first days of this refit we were thinking in raplace the engines for modern volvos or others but no way.....after see with the owner we decided to rebuilt the gardners and after sailing last two seasoons is a really pleasure. Always working and no problems. You can sail hours and hours and no changes at all.

Can you please tell me the original name of this yacht please. Fairmile was the name of the company who designed and built these yachts. The hull was derived from the Fairmile class of trawler, hence these vessels ability to cope with very heavy seas, seas which transom sterns would not enjoy. One of the first vessels I worked on when I left school had twin Gardiners (and a Lister as an auxiliary, which was probably removed years ago as the vibration everywhere aboard was diabolical). Was she by any chance named 'Thelma M 111' ?

Dear Michael. The original name was TANIT. The last owner had the boat more than 30 years and renamed her FAIRMILE in memory of the shipyard.

270 or 290 bhp, have you got the later camshaft lobes & followers, & removed the inner exhaust valve springs, as there is no exhaust brake.

250hp each. This yacht had the old 6 cyl Gardner 127hp and were changed in early 80' for these 6LXDT. All the refit works were done in Gardner headquarters in 2020 and still running perfect

IDK... i do repowers with a engine room 'refit' package on 80'+ motor yachts. When i'm done you cant see any wiring or plumbing, all you can see is Stainless, polished brass, mahogany, tiek, leather, switches, knobs, valves and smoked plexi to cover breaker panels. everything is flush mounted and painstakingly routed
