    For me it was the fuel pump beginning to die. I did a follow-up video about that....

    Love the Videos. I would love to see where you hooked the pressure gauge up to and what gauge you bought from Harbor Freight. Hope you find your problem

    The Schrader valve on the fuel rail is easily accessible on top of the engine on the driver's side. Just go to Harbor Freight and ask for a fuel pressure gauge. They'll have one or two to choose from. Not very expensive either, maybe 15 bucks.

    Hey! I have the exact same truck. Same year. Same engine. Same color. Same drive train (manual). Except mine is straight bed, not step side. I had the exact same problem. Started up cold. Hard start warm. Got harder and harder to start after a few weeks to where I had to let it cool completely before it would turn over. I had already replaced my fuel pump and filter ( well before this happened)so I knew it wasn't that. After it got really bad I watched 8 hours of KZread and got really confused. The next day I called a buddy in Louisiana, told him the symptoms, and he immediately said , " That's your EGR valve." No one else on KZread said anything about EGR. So I replaced it (along with the EGR solenoid, which was pry overkill) and it runs better than it ever has. I had pre-ignition also. Took care of that too. Sometimes it pays to have friends in low places....Hookem!

    It sounds like you love your truck almost as much as I do! In my case, it didn't want to start when cold. And I demonstrated in the video a lack of fuel pressure....almost like the fuel pump had an aversion to the cold weather, (sort of like I do!). Since I made this video, I have not done anything to the truck, and it has started and run flawlessly all Spring and Summer. Now that things are cooling off again with some cold nights, I've had a time or two on a cold morning when it would again crank but not start. If I cycle the key a few times, it decides to cooperate, starts up and runs fine. We'll see what happens as we move into Winter....

    @@Buckwsr Yeah i had been chasing a similar problem on a 99 f150 v6 for the last 2 years, ran good most the time down here in Florida till the temps start dropping. Almost the exact same thing as yours a few key twists did the trick, tho a month back started getting lean codes to for both banks went thru the run down for vacuum leaks, cleaning the maf , changing the filter and than the fuel filter. noticed the trims dropped from +15 to +11 ish with fuel filter. So i was figuring since it was cooler out the engine was wanting more fuel in colder weather to start and the pump was weak. finally driving after this happening these 2 years during a cooler day i noticed the truck was not wanting to get up and go so i went ahead got a Bosch pump for like 45 bucks. lean codes and start up problem gone fuel trims in the 0 - +5 range. So yeah something was wrong in my pump, tho the good thing is i found a hand full of other problem while diagnosing it like IMRC bushing that where a pain to do with the intake on and alot of vacuum hose ready to bite the dust and evap rubber hose on the tank and to the tank.

    @@soulstring5041 I've thought that it might be the fuel pump, and I figured that if it were, then sooner or later the pump would just up and quit. In the 9 months since posting this video, I have had almost no problems with start up. But recently, as cold weather hits, I've had a few times when I had to cycle the key a few times to get it started.

    @@Buckwsr Yeah i figured the same, why it was the last place i really looked into. Has been fine since it started warming up earlier this year and just started back up in the last month or two. The problems been happening over a almost 2 year period and was always hard to reproduce so a pain to track down. Have had the truck since new and this is the second one i have put in, it was not driven a lot in the years between and i know that its not good for the pumps to sit long periods of time not running.

    So I guess the security chip in your first key went bad. Glad it was an easy fix. 9 months after I made this video, the problem resurfaced. This time I was able to determine I needed a new fuel pump. Not too hard a job, and now she's as good as new!

    My buddy had the same problem with the same truck. It finely broke down when I was around to test it. I found he wasn't getting power to the fuel pump. Upon checking the fuel pump fuse and relay I herd the pump go on as I was working at the under hood fuse box. It ended up being a poor connection within the fuse box itself, that he later fixed so I didn't see it. It's been good for months now. Hope this helps someone....

    Great comment, thanks! In my case, after 10 months with no problems, the intermittent problem showed up again. I definitely diagnosed it as a dying fuel pump. Changed it out, and I'm good to go again! Thank you.

    If you have a scanner, see if it's throwing a distributor code. If it is, check the crank position sensor. It could be a loose connection, or just the sensor being faulty

  • @Buckwsr

    @Buckwsr

    For me I definitively narrowed it down to a fuel pump that was on the way out. You say you replaced that, so I guess your issue is something else. good luck.

  • @YasapYaakov018

    I had a similar issue with my 2009 f150 4.6. I thought it was my fuel pump cause the truck did a crank no start 2 times after fueling. But I could hear the pump prime, had pressure, amps, and the fuel seem to be on point. So I did the next best thing. Pulled the fuse to the fuel pump and primed the intake with starter fluid while I had someone crank. Still no luck. So I moved on to the ignition. Test the spark with a spark tester and the spark was there but very dim. Then after connecting everything the truck start right up. It was odd. So I figured there was a short and maybe I solved it. WRONG.. I drove it to work the next morning no problem on the way home that evening, the truck literally stopped at roughly 65mph and did the crank no start again. I didn't think to check the Crank Position sensor since it was replaced before, and I could see the cluster needle move when cranking. But sure enough, I went under the truck to check it and it was nasty and smelled like coolant. I didn't think about it when I replaced my water pump, but apparently it damaged the crank sensor. Crank sensor was replaced and solved my problem. Sorry for the long story

    Filter should always be your first option! If fuel rail shooting fuel when primed than filter is clogged! Also changing both is the smart way to go. Lol having same problem on my 4.6 bank 1 is too wild lol but yes fuel filter or bad relay or bad pcm

    Hi, Im a service tech. Was wondering have you checked the fuel pump driver module. I had a ford mustang that did the very thing your F150 is doing. Ended up being intermitten no power out from FPDM.

  • @Buckwsr

    @Buckwsr

    Thank you for the note! I think Ford started using the FPDM on the F150 beginning in 2004. My truck is a 2003. So here's what happened: After I made this video, the truck ran perfectly for 10 months. Then, this intermittent crank-no-start thing re-appeared. I was able to determine that the fuel pump was definitely dying....I could hear it whining, so I knew it was getting power, but just wasn't working. I replaced the pump, and so far so good. This all happened within the past week. Thanks again.
