Engine 2 8i Test Run - Ford Capri injection

This are fifteen year old recordings of a first test run of a 2.8i engine of a Ford Capri. The engine has to refurbished because of destroyed exhaust valves. It has also a new camshaft with more power. Both reasons are explained in the second part @4:10, please activate English subtitles.
The engine is now lead free, has special exhaust manifolds, a G-KAT, and polished inlet and exhaust pipes.

    Ford Capri 2.8 litres motor is the best motor in the world. Very good engin with big torque at low RPM. Je le sais, parce que j'en ai possédé une dans ma jeunesse. À l'époque, j'ai coursé contre la police sur l'autoroute 15 Nord au Québec, j'ai coursé contre une Pontiac Trans-Am 400 T/A (6.6 litres) et contre une Triumph TR-8. Ma Ford Capri 2.8 litres à carburateur à gagnée toute ces course. Merci Ford Capri COLOGNE.

    A little bit more tempermental than the 2 litre though, but more fun.

    And very handsome, in 4th gear it accelarates very clear from 1,000 rpm.

    I have a 3.0 Essex engine and it seems so much more simple compared to the 2.8i engine, even though by modern standards they are both simple.

    Yes, but the 3.0 Essex is a pain in the ass, because it has different metrics on all screws, zoll and mm. You never know, which one to use.

    Yes, that is a bit weird why they use so many different ones, but i meant that the Bosch K-Jetronic injection system is a bit complicated and hard to understand.

    I think not that hard. In your 3.0 the gasoline is pumped with a mechanical gasoline pump into the carburetor. The air is sucked through the cylinders. The air takes the gasoline with it and so it becomes a mixing of air and gasoline. But the mixing rate is not really under control. The mixing is than separated to the six cylinders. On K-Jetronic the air flow meter opens or closes on the amount of sucked air through the cylinders (like in my video). Same as 3.0. Only the air flow meter controls over mechanical ways the amount of fuel, which is pressed though the now electrical gasoline pump to six separated pipes to the six cylinders. So you have always the perfect mixing rate of gasoline and air. Also through the injection you get a better overall mixing in the air. That's all. The big metal box on top of the engine is only to stabilize and calm down the air. The fuel is not injected inside the cylinder, it is only injected near the valve in the inlet way in a continuous (that means the K Kontinuierlich in K-Jetronic). Today engines are much more complicated. They inject the fuel inside the cylinder in the right amount at the right time. It is a special amount and changing amount over time and special spread. This gets a much more better rate and power, but on the other side more problems with exhaust gas. So the old ones are in a view areas cleaner than the new ones and so the new ones need more exhaust gas cleaning.

    poor oil pressure and a lumpy idle,these engines were always poor performers due to only 4 trumpets in the plenum when there could have been 6,2.8 non injection with 3 litre carb is better.
