I feel the same way as that person. I lost my best friend, two uncles and a family friend last year and watching and listening to watame helps me come to grips with what I lost

i love when we get these moments because i feel the same way, it normally sounds pretty cheesy but i mean, its true, hololive and vtubers are probably one of the last reasons for me being here too. ive written these kinds of messages, most times i delete them to not be a downer, sometimes i do press send, but even then i struggle to bring myself to superchat and make it obvious because im homeless, not that i dont have money, it was my childhood and the relationship between my family that put me and my mother here, its just that most times i argue with myself to even buy a 10-20 dollar game on sale when i want to, let alone spend money on a chat or monthly membership to something.

One thing that is rarely talked about is some of the pressure on streamers in general keeping people from feeling depressed. That part of the job can be mentally taxing and nerve racking that if you fuck up or retire someone can just off themselves because of it. It truly is a great thing that Watame is helping so many people, but try keep these spread out and don't make it a tidal wave of emotions coming at once

I'm always a bit conflicted with these kinds of SCs. Don't get me wrong, this person sounded as genuinely desperate to tell her how she has made their life more bearable, and they definitely deserve more than just the glimmer of happiness they've managed to find themselves. It's just, Watame and the others aren't trained experts, they're entertainers, very good ones, but they take on board a LOT of what comes their way, because they're good people. And when I say they aren't trained, I don't just mean they may not know how to properly comfort a person feeling this depressed, but they - like Watame, who has been vocal about her pretty hectic life - can find it hard to shake off such emotional weight than a trained therapists. I do appreciate it helps to showcase the humanity a lot of us need to see during these horrible times, I just always worry that a) the SC poster does manage to get more help they deserve, and b) Watame and any of the others who get these messages don't add that grief to their own once the stream has ended.

Wouldn't you say the person getting better is a cause for happiness, though? And knowing she played some part in it wouldn't actually be a fond or uplifting memory instead of bad emotional baggage? I would agree with you if such talk was banned, but the truth is Watame and other vtubers themselves will sometimes talk about similar struggles about themselves, so it's hard to say that's a no-no topic when it also gets talked about by them.

You can see how these kinds of Superchats can backfire from Haachama's channel. She was playing Minecraft and someone sent her a SC saying something like "My father passed away recently and your streams have helped me pull through it". Unfortunately Haachama couldnt fully understand as it was all in English and she didnt know what "passed away" meant so she was just like "uhhh thanks thank you" and then said "wow... thats so cool". Then the chat let her know what it meant and she instantly broke character, almost speaking in her IRL voice and said "oh my god im sorry... I didnt know what it mean... I..... dont know what to say" and she started crying. Then there was like a minute of awkward silence before she started crying again and said "im really ashamed of myself right now".

@@LemonRush7777 Yeah, if them getting better was a straightforward outcome, unfortunately where mental and emotional well being is concerned it's very rarely ever that binary - if it was, there'd be a lot less of it. How a person responds to such a message isn't as straightforward as "I made them feel good in a bad situation, therefore I will feel better", Watame clearly took a lot of that message to heart, it hit her, and a lot of us, to the point where she felt compelled to reflect on her own perceived weaknesses in her own craft, as a way of trying to humanise herself to the poster to comfort them further. I'm not saying she'd have left the stream upset, but a layer of decompression sounds like it could have been in order after it nearly brought her to tears. She may not have given that a second thought afterwards, she may have the appropriate help around her to talk through that emotional build up (in which case a fucking HUGE well done to Hololive for taking their staff that seriously), it could have nagged her, it could have really left a mark on her. All I know is it made her take a look at herself, and she had a conflicted level of gratitude, and sympathy. That can leave you feeling really low if not handled well as a performer. Performing in general is a draining job, moreso when you're as intimately connected to your audience as an online streamer like a VTuber, and whilst hearing the poster is doing well enough rn, there's no telling how much that can play on the girls' minds off stream. Like I said, I want that poster to not just feel good here, but feel a lot more happiness that they deserve, just, whenever I see SCs like this (it's happened to Watame at least one other time), I always worry there's more that can be done to help the poster then "it's good they found this or that streamer" whilst worrying about how much of an impact those messages can have on the girls.

@@natedoggcata Haachama knows broken english, so anything in english incurs the risk of her not understand a lick of it. Watame's SC was in japanese, though, so that scenario would never have happened, and from what you mentioned, it seems she was mostly worried about the fact that she belittled someone's death (though completely without intention, so not her fault as I'm sure the SC person knows). Also, Haachama doesn't talk about this kind of topic. She does talk about hardships, but about different matters and in a joyful manner, so it was more ill fitting to the stream content.

@@SteadFast411 Sure, but like I said, if this sort of thing was a extremely non-desireable, it would be treated similarly like politics by the performers themselves - a topic they don't even dare mention themselves. All of them know and understand that their audience is not comprised of only happy and functional members of society. You have amongst those hikkis, people suffering from depression or just general loneliness, some of which can get very invested to the point of forming an unhealthy parasocial relationship with the entertainers. It is natural to expect that non-explocitly banned topics like this may appear, especially so when it's brought up by the vtuber themselves, as those topics are generally seen as safe for the streams. If the SC content was undesireable, they could simply veto and not read it as they do multiple times. I also don't think they are as emotionally fragile as you may think. Particularly Watame, who went through a lot. We all can get affected by other people's emotions, but to leave a lasting scar takes a lot. Also, remember she cries on other SCs unrelated to tragedies, like the one related to that fanily thanking her for making them feel happy and close as a family (the one with the daughter), so she has a predisposition for that on emotional surges, but that doesn't mean they last or leave an imprint, especially to the point it will be a demerit to her health or work. Of course, my guesswork is as good as yours. Ultimately, people will write whatever they feel like, so a good rule would be to explicit what kind of content is unacceptable if that type of SC is unwanted, otherwise we are left in the dark wondering what can or cannot be said.
